2018 Honda Crv Ex Awd – It seems like yesterday, but it’s been more than two years since we started our three-year lease on the 2018 Honda CR-V EX-L AWD. We’ve got notes on the powertrains and compiled a list of “10 Things We Love” about the CR-V .
We’ve used the CR-V for daily errands, taken a few short vacations, and recently reduced driving frequency and distance due to the novel coronavirus (aka COVID-19) pandemic. While we are grateful, our 10,000 miles in two years of driving is less than I had planned.

We were able to do two runs to San Diego, two trips to Hollywood and Anaheim, and regular runs around Los Angeles and Orange County (Manhattan Beach to San Clemente).

The front seats have become a popular feature of the CR-V. They are really comfortable and provide support for short trips around town, long trips and driving along the coast and up the hills of your favorite winding road. As we’ve found with other vehicles, driver comfort is an important factor in overall vehicle satisfaction.
We also like the convenience of the integrated storage system. With the push of a button, we can quickly (and automatically) adjust the seat for two drivers to the desired position stored in the memory.
Our CR-V’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine is well built. As we mentioned, we’ve driven many turbocharged vehicles over the years, but this is our first. With 190 horsepower and 179 lb.-lbs. given the torque, there is plenty of power available for hill climbing and cruising.

As expected, our fuel consumption varies depending on our driving conditions. On long drives, we were happy to get 31.0 mpg. In stop-and-go city driving, however, our fuel economy could dip below 20 mpg. The CR-V has an “Econ” button to help improve efficiency (we rarely use it because throttle response is poor).
We chose the front end of the CR-V because we rarely took it out on paved roads. However, we have decided to extend the traction benefits of AWD through our previous Subaru Outback rental and now our Subaru Forester rental. We like the safe and stable feel that AWD provides on wet roads, gravel surfaces and completely dry roads.
As we mentioned in our last update, we can transmit the torque monitor through the driver-selectable multi-information display on the screen. Honda’s real-time all-wheel drive can send up to 40 percent of torque to the rear wheels when needed. System performance is smooth, seamless and fully comprehensive.

We were lucky enough to test drive every CR-V over the years (for a weekly press credit) before leasing our current model. Like our predecessors, the CK-V provides a well-equipped ride.
Compared to our previous midsize crossover (not a Honda or Subaru), our CR-V’s ride is firm, not floaty. Handling is ‘sporty’, with well designed and responsive suspension, steering and rocker arm. This is why we feel comfortable moving in ways like the above.
As previous owners of two Honda Accords, we considered getting another – until we decided we needed more luggage space. Despite its compact dimensions, the CR-V offers incredibly spacious cargo space thanks to the “Arctic” style in the rear and efficient cargo.

Over the past few years, we’ve hauled a variety of things in the CR-V, including groceries, household items, surfboards, large furniture, various boxes, crates, and suitcases. We still wonder how they fit in there.
Our standard 7-inch audio system with CR-V EX-L display. It can be accessed via convenient touch or buttons on the steering wheel, voice control and a separate retro-style volume button.
With Apple CarPlay®, we can connect our phone to the system via the USB port on the center console using the lightning cable that comes with our phone.

As we show in our video, we asked Siri to “find a coffee shop” and suggest several nearby options. We’ve also used it to find restaurants, gas stations, golf courses and more.
Our CR-V EX-L is equipped with the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, including Anti-Collision Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Mitigation. While we’ve run into this a few times over the past year and had various system warnings, it’s reassuring to know these features are there when you need them.

One safety feature we use every day is the multi-angle rearview camera. Whether you’re leaving a parking space or entering a parking space, this is one of our favorite features that provides convenience and safety.
Our dogs love the CR-V’s friendly atmosphere. Compared to our previous Honda, they have more room to stretch out in the spacious back seat. We bought them a second bed to keep them comfortable and safe, as well as a “hammock” to keep them from going up into protection.
Whether we’re hauling bags of groceries or heavy boxes in a big box, the CR-V loads our luggage to make life easier. We also like the trio of convenient remote gate opening and closing options.

We can press a button on the controller; use separate buttons on the back (one to open and one to close); or use the dashboard button for easy rear access from the driver’s seat.
Our CR-V is still the most reliable car we’ve ever owned. We went to our dealership for our annual routine maintenance, including oil and filter changes, tire changes, and a vehicle inspection.
The battery on the keyless remote was dead so we visited our parts dealer to get a new set. Otherwise, there have been no recalls or unexpected mechanical or electrical issues to date.

Two years is enough time to get to know the car. And our experience with the Honda CR-V was satisfactory. We still love this crossover. As we approach the three-year mark, we have a tough decision to make: Should we ditch the CR-V for something else? Or should we buy a CR-V and make it a permanent member of our family? We decided in less than a year.

The base 2018 Honda CR-V uses a 2.4-liter inline-four with 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, mated to a continuously variable transmission. With front-wheel drive, it returns fuel economy figures of 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, and 25/31 mpg for all-wheel drive versions.
While performance and fuel economy numbers aren’t bad for the class, the CR-V is better in other metrics as well. The EX, EX-L, and Touring use a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four with 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque; this golden number has high power at just 2000 rpm. It’s also 1.5 liters more fuel efficient than the base engine, with the front-drive CR-V rated at 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway and AWD models at 27/33 mpg. These are the best fuel economy figures you’ll find in the class, apart from the diesel and hybrid models.
