This pink Antoinette table is the perfect piece to show that black wax doesn’t have to be all or nothing. If you’re worried that dark wax might be overpowering or dirty or muddy, it’s okay to use it sparingly to bring out the details.

Dark wax creates depth, dimension, interest and a quick patina to details and is a great way to get into dark wax without feeling too dark.
Here are some recent examples of how black wax can age a piece. Notice how it joins the two lip and leg slots, this gives the table a vintage look without covering the entire room.
Note: The strength of any black wax can be controlled by first applying clear wax and then applying black wax where desired. In this case, the Q tip was the perfect size marker for the crochet border. If you find the effect too heavy, apply some pure wax to remove the black and tone if necessary.

Soft Wax By Annie Sloan
Apply Dark Chalk Paint™ Wax to highlight brush marks, cracks and texture to age your paint. Use Clear Chalk Paint™ wax to seal and protect furniture and walls painted with Chalk Paint™ decorative paint.
After painting, coat interior furniture with a thin layer of Clear Chalk Paint™ wax, wiping off any excess with a clean cloth. Then apply Dark Knoll Paint™ Wax, pushing it into the paint to remove brush marks and gaps. Clean off residue with Clear Chalk Paint™ wax, making sure each of your pieces is waxed at least once.
Wait for the first coat of Chalk Paint™ Wax to dry before applying the second (this can take up to an hour depending on environmental conditions and the thickness of the first coat).

After Care: Wipe with a dry cloth For tough marks, use a spray cleaner and re-wax when necessary.

Today I’m going to show you how to paint furniture with black chalk paint. It was my first time using Annie Sloan’s Athens Black. (Yes, I’m pretty sure Annie Sloan makes great chalk paint! And not just because they sign the word “chalk paint” to things.) Also included is a quick video to get you started.
It was an Ethan Allen nightstand, and even before I saw the maker’s mark I knew right away that it was well made. It cost me $22 at the thrift store.
