Benjamin Moore Gray With Blue Undertones – We recently talked about the bedroom and showed off our new wallpapered ceiling. This theme was the starting point for this room. Lifting the paper up, I began to visualize the remaining space. To me, the wallpaper stands out in cream, gold, and blue, but it’s a bit lost because it’s on a ceiling surrounded by a sea of ​​white ceiling colors. I knew the new blue gray color on the walls would be the perfect solution to really brighten up the wallpaper!

First, I had to choose a new blue-gray color for the walls and ceiling. There was a lot of snow in Chicago (it was winter!) and of course there was a huge blizzard the day I wanted to pick up the paint samples. But I didn’t let that get me down! I put on my winter clothes and headed to my local Benjamin Moore store. Luckily it’s only a few blocks away!

I brought a wallpaper sample to get a blue gray to complement it. Generally, if I’m trying to find a paint color that matches the color of a specific cabinet, switch, or other design element, all I have to do is match the color shop to the color of the switch. They just put it under the scanner and boom…you have the right thing! However, the blue on this subject is so small that they can’t scan to find the perfect match. (Note: I later talked to Erin, the wallpaper designer, and she said the blue was actually Benjamin Moore, “Blue Spring.” Well, I had already painted the room at that point. But check it later if you want, now you know! )

So my game plan was to look at the swatches and find light blues with warm undertones. I didn’t want it to be too purple or too cold. Instead, my main goal was blue-grey, a little warm! I saw the swatches and brought four color swatches home and tried them on the wall.

I like to paint the swatches directly on the wall and place them in multiple places around the room. I know some people draw on chalkboards or paper samples and move them around the room, but I love seeing paint on the walls. I’ve never had a problem painting over a swatch and seeing the original color underneath, so it worked great for me. It was the same with this project. I did not donate to this project or provide color samples. I just drew on them.

After looking at the swatches on the wall, I decided that Benjamin Moore ‘Boothbay Grey’ would be perfect for me. Not too pink, not too grey, with a warm temperature. Yes yes Yes!

Remember the last blog post on common paint mistakes? He talked about how people often neglect to think about gloss when choosing a color. I knew I would be painting both the ceiling and the walls, so I chose two different shades of the exact same color.

That’s what I did.

Before I started painting, I prepared the room. Finn and I removed the old mattress and box spring; I separated the bed frame from the bed frame; Then I cleaned all the dust hiding behind the furniture.

My Dyson vacuum with a small attachment was a good companion for removing all the dust from the back of the furniture. It was great to clean the space! After all the dust settled, I removed the toilet and vents and taped the windows and doors with painter’s tape.

Then it’s time to paint. Followed the paint shop guy’s instructions…Painted the ceiling first and then went downstairs. I was too scared to stick the wallpaper for fear of ripping and tearing, so I cut the wallpaper slowly. It took a while, but it was worth it.

I found that using crazy extension cords helped me a lot. All that’s left to do is climb the ladder to break through the wall. The rest of the ceiling and the upper parts of the walls are made of roller. It saved me time, but this project left me alone all day. My mom took Rory to her cousin’s house that day and they left at eight in the morning. I was cleaning when they came back at 5pm. Too long! I finished watching the entire season

This is the view of my back looking up at the ceiling as if I were lying in bed. Isn’t it amazing?! I am so glad I painted this color all the way to the edge of the wall because it is now the look of this room. It stands out and adds a unique element to the design.

At first I thought the black fan was too bright compared to the white and cream. I think it goes well with the new blue gray paint. It creates a nice contrast to the warm colors of the paint and wallpaper.

I took the photos in the morning after sunrise and I think they show the true colors you can see with this paint. It doesn’t look gray at all to me, but can look very blue and sometimes green. I’m glad I don’t see any purple in this color!

The colors change a little throughout the day, there are lots of people, and I love it regardless of the light or time. It’s just a beautiful color.

Again, I’m sitting in this bedroom watching, and I’m not mad about it! This view never gets old and soon I’ll be laying in my new big bed and seeing a new view here. I love it!
