Regal Select Matte Waterborne Interior Paint

Front paint for cabinets takes about 16 hours to dry, making it virtually impossible to do two coats in one day. This will be a multi-day project and Corotech Command Paint is perfect for any application that needs something that dries quickly. It provides minimal disruption to your day as you can apply a second coat within an hour.

Front paint dries a bit slower, allowing it to level itself, so you don’t get too much texture from brush strokes or rollers. Command, on the other hand, shows more imperfections like brush strokes and small bubbles. Commands can get sticky if there’s too much work to do, so you’ll need to work quickly.

Command Paint has a slightly strong smell until it dries completely. If you are concerned about fumes or harmful chemicals, you may want to choose a low VOC paint additive.

That is, the command has an advantage in terms of consistency. It is designed for heavy use and abuse in commercial and industrial settings. This makes your home cabinets more durable even with more wear and tear.

When painting kitchen cabinets, you want a smooth finish that’s easy to clean. Generally, a semi-gloss or satin finish is the best choice for kitchen cabinets because it is easy to clean off food spills, heat, grease and fingerprints.

Regardless of the color you choose, it is very important to properly prepare your cabinets. Remove doors and hardware for a more professional paint job. Clean your cabinets thoroughly, sand, and prime with a quick-drying primer. When you complete these steps, your color will stick better and you will get better results.

For kitchen cabinets, Advanced and Corotech bow paints are good options. The choice depends on the preferences of the homeowner and the painter.

For bathroom cabinets, humidity is very important. A bathroom’s color must be durable enough to withstand steamy showers, running children’s water, and frequent cleanings. It should have excellent adhesion to ensure that it does not peel off the surface, even in humid environments.

Preparing bathroom cabinets is similar to kitchen cabinets. Be sure to remove the doors and hardware, clean everything thoroughly, and lightly sand the surface. Using a quick drying primer before painting will help the paint adhere better.

For bathroom cabinets, progressive and command are good options. Both these colors are durable enough to withstand a lot of use. That said, Advanced is generally a better choice for cabinets, while Command is better for high-traffic surfaces like floors.

When painting high-impact surfaces such as drawers and cabinets, be sure to let the paint cure thoroughly. Although the paint will be dry to the touch within a few hours, it is not yet fully formed. You can use your wardrobe, try your best not to damage or make it dirty for about 2 weeks.

Update: I shared my current thoughts on painting furniture with Benjamin Moore Advance. As a follow up to this post please read this post here. ****

Hello friends! A few months ago I decided to try a new color, Benjamin Moore’s Progress. I’ve been using a general finish paint and topcoat for a while now, but since starting to spray furniture with an HVLP spray gun in early 2015, the finish has been incredibly difficult to get. When sprayed on top coat. The conclusion I have come to is that the air coming out of the gun starts to dry the topcoat sprayed on the previous coat immediately. Basically the topcoat doesn’t have enough “wet edge” for a smooth and uniform finish, resulting in long surfaces (like the top of the piece and some sides). I’ve tried spraying thinner and thinner layers of topcoat to combat this problem, but I haven’t found anything that works to prevent it. Finally, I will smooth the finish with steel wool and then apply a final coat of poly/top coat with a high quality paint brush or foam brush. *As a side note, this problem becomes more apparent when you use a high gloss like a gloss or satin top coat.*

This prompted me to find something else. I was looking for a color that didn’t require a top coat (and didn’t stay put). Give the development of Benjamin Moore. BM Advance is a water-borne alkyd paint that performs like traditional oil-based paint in a water-based form that cleans up easily with soap and water. I’ve read of people rolling, brushing, spraying this paint and adding some texture (brush strokes, roller marks, etc.) with good results. Only high gloss finishes are used. I’m also hoping to try a satin finish or semi-gloss, I need to get the other pieces prepped and ready to paint. Here you can see the modern look with geometric drawers that I painted with Advance.

Here are my thoughts on this color, what I like about it, and what I don’t. I would say there is no perfect color. Different colors do different things and work in different ways. It all depends on the look you want and what you need the paint for (like a durable or vintage finish on high traffic surfaces).

I want to talk a little bit about the price. I find this paint to be about the same price as other paints I use (like normal finishes). BM Advance Waterborne Alkyd Paint costs $25 per liter plus tax and $50 per gallon plus tax. A gallon is more affordable and makes sense to buy common colors that I use often (like white). If I’m trying for the first time, or for colors that are light and not used often, I buy only one liter.

One thing to note about this paint is the drying time and recoating time. It’s long and people are afraid of it. If you need to finish a project quickly, this may not be the color to use on that project. It will take approx. Allow 4 to 6 hours for paint to dry, 16 hours before reapplying. Temperature and humidity play a role in these times and can increase drying and painting times. To be safe, I wait at least 24 hours between coats and sometimes 2-3 days if I can. I also use my dish heater (you don’t want to use a heater that blows air because it will blow dirt onto your painted finish) and turn it on about 10 minutes after I spray. My spray booth holds the heat so well that I move it to a different area of the spray booth every 30 minutes. Be sure not to set the temperature too high or too close to the piece.

The great thing about the developer’s extended opening time is that the paint has more time to level and can be finished with fewer brush, roller or spray marks. I still had problems with the texture of the orange peel after spraying this color several times. The disadvantage of prolonged drying is the longer time it takes for dust, fuzz, and other debris to settle on the ground.
