In this post I share all the colors we used and all the hardware choices we made in our modern farmhouse.

I love clean lines and although I went through a shabby chic phase 10 years ago, I now gravitate towards mid-century modern and minimalism. This lead to the first and most striking color we used in our new home: Tricorn Black.

Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams is true black. The entire exterior of our house is painted brick and the siding is black. We love how the use of color transforms the farmhouse exterior into a completely modern farmhouse. The color is very striking and so are we

Modern Farmhouse Paint Colors & Hardware

In addition, the black color of the tricolor was used throughout the house. All the doors on the main floor are black, as is the accent wall in the master bedroom. We also chose a brick fireplace in the front and painted it black to reflect the exterior of the house.

I painted some of our closets black, the built-in closets in the laundry room, and the kids’ bathroom upstairs. There are black cabinets in the mud room as you enter from the garage.

I love how the brass hardware separates the black doors and cabinets. I link to all our hardware later in this post.

Exterior House Colors To Convince You To Paint Yours

In our last house I painted all the walls white 3 years ago and loved it. I know I’m not the only one loving white walls right now, but there’s a reason they’re popular. Such a pure feeling! (Unless your kids leave dirty marks on their gloves) So I went pure white with Sherwin Williams and I love the crisp white!

I’ve always wanted to paint my walls bright colors in the past, but never got around to it because I got sick of bright blues, yellows, or greens over the years. Painting neutral walls is so helpful for me to change the look of a room without having to paint!

So basically all the walls in our house are pure white except for a select few, as is the trim. The black door at the bottom and the gray door at the top will stop the white completely.

Exterior Paint Ideas For Inviting Curb Appeal

For the kitchen, we decided to have all the upper cabinets and towers white and all the lower cabinets stained. I like the combination of wood, white and brass. I’m thinking about staining the lower island cabinets but can’t decide which color I want more than this thin oak!

I wanted a very light wood stain for most of the cabinets in our house. The builder came up with this stain by thinning the oak by 50% and it’s amazing. All my cabinets are maple so if you are looking for a wood stain you need to consider what wood you are starting with.

I decided to stain the wood in all the bathrooms in the house. We did brass fixtures in my master bathroom and kitchen and black upstairs. I like both options for wood fittings.

Our Favorite Farmhouse Exteriors

Another main color I used in the house is a nice gray from Sherwin Williams. I love this gray! It’s a very warm gray that almost reads as gray with warm gold undertones. It looks so amazing with the brass hardware in my office, I love it.

I painted the walls and cabinets in our home office a nice gray, as well as all the upstairs doors and two walls in the upstairs bedroom. This warm gray is such a neutral, I paired it with black and brown and I love it! I am so excited about all of our modern farmhouse colors!

Choosing hardware was much harder than I expected! The decision fatigue is real, and after going through what seems like thousands of pulls and knobs, I’m very happy with what we came up with.

Interior/exterior Paint Colors At Modern Farmhouse Glam

If you are interested in our builder, we have built with Crabtree Homes in the Oklahoma City suburbs. I would recommend building with them 100x. After talking to people who built their homes, I’m so glad I chose them. I had complete control over all hardware and paint color choices, lighting and fixtures. I could choose from any site and worked closely with their designers to make all the decisions. It was a fun process! All the employees I have worked with at Crabtree are amazing, if you are doing construction in OKC give them a call! 🙂
