Water is often enough, but we recommend using our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been in the pen for a long time and has dried out, or if you change the color of the ink.
First things first: make sure the pen has ink! Make sure the ink cartridge or converter is properly seated in the pen and the ink is empty.

Lamy dip tests its fountain pens at the factory and it is not uncommon for new Lamy pens to have ink residue on the nib. As with all new fountain pens, we recommend cleaning your new Lamy thoroughly before using it. For instructions, see our blog article on how to clean a fountain pen.
I went back and forth on it. At first I wanted to measure the pen at 3. However, due to the build quality of the pen and ink adapter, I chose the 4. The review actually has two parts.
1. Pen – This is a good pen. The weight is perfect, the hand feel is great. The nib writes smoothly and evenly. It looks good on paper and provides a lot of tangible feedback.

2. Ink – Ink is awesome. I have blue ink and it is the worst ink I have ever written on. The blue is pale and looks like someone took real ink and poured it on. It won’t last. The color fades quickly. I have been using the pen for about three months now and the things I wrote when I first found it look worse than before.
My advice: buy a pen and ink adapter. Never install a Lamy ink cartridge. Buy the right ink and enjoy a great pen that writes perfectly and smoothly. The pen is great, but the ink is not.
There are tons of reviews for this pen, but even after reading several Google sources, I still wasn’t sure what I was doing. I’m going to put this down as the last person to ask about it.
Lamy Safari 017 Broad Nib Fountain Pen Box Pack
Dark gray with some texture. This pen differs from the smooth, glossy versions in that it has a visible rib on the surface. I take this as a blessing, but it is a departure from the norm. The notched grip makes the pen feel smaller when held. I measure the diameter at 3/8 inch compared to 7/16 inch if the notches are missing. By comparison, the cheaper PaperMate is 5/16 inch thick. Combined with the lightness of the body, the pen is strong.
There is no other way to hold this pen, so it may take some time to get used to the grip. Since I only used round pencils before, I had an odd grip. The result was that the text was not very comfortable, but it looked much cleaner!
The clip is firm but flexible. The unique design allows you to attach a small carabiner or lanyard to the cap and attach the pen anywhere. The main reason I chose this pen and it is worth it. Put it in your bag or wear it around your neck: great.

The ink window is active. I use a converter and Herbin Noir. If you hold the tip of the pen for a moment, you can clearly see the level.
Overall, the pen isn’t very fancy, but it feels like a solid tool. If you appreciate beauty, this pen will not disappoint, it looks and feels like a true Navy Seals fountain pen.
The reviews don’t lie, the term “surcharge” is an exaggeration. In the Strathmore Sketch 400 series, the line corresponds to a 0.5mm pencil in my pen. In Mead’s notebook it reaches 0.7 mm. I will give pictures, but there are already similarities. If I want a thin line, I rotate the pen. Basically it offers 0.3mm and 0.5mm lines.
