Aren’t you excited? Well, you should be; This is the first time the Japanese automaker has properly redesigned its midsize truck since the current D40 series debuted in 2004.

Fortunately, spy shots and recent Nissan upcoming product teasers offer little new looks; So, what else can we expect for 2021? Let’s investigate in more detail.
Nissan Frontier For Sale In Lihue
Nissan has pushed the boundaries for this next generation truck with styling as muscular and brazen as the Titan. The bold front end is aggressively executed with its large grille, rugged fenders, chiselled hood and rectangular headlamps with dual-ended DRLs.
The visual drama is lessened when viewed from the side – which isn’t a bad thing, because it’s a truck. The cabin is upright, with a window line similar to that of the Ford F-150, and the bed is on par with its closest rivals. Flared rear fenders give it a stable stance and at the rear there is a power sliding rear window, LED taillights and a shark fin antenna.
Sitting in the current Frontier feels like a time warp, but the interior design is almost an afterthought. Fortunately, the new one boasts high levels of refinement and occupant space with an emphasis on connectivity and comfort features.
Nissan Frontier Enters The Modern Age With A Fresh Body
One of Nissan’s latest models to hit the market, the 2021 Rogue, we can expect an optional digital instrument cluster, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay. And broad light.
Nissan’s driver assistance system ProPilot 2.0 suite takes the stress out of job site driving with lane keeping navigation, speed limit sign detection, pedestrian detection with EAB, rear cross traffic alert and high beam assist.
According to sources, it won’t be a complete redesign as we know it, nor will it be based on the global Navara midsize truck, as some parts of the current Frontier will be carried over. Instead, it will run on a modified version of the old F-Alpha platform of the current US and Canadian market model.

Speaking to Auto News last year, AutoPacific analyst Ed Kim explained the reasoning behind Nissan’s decision to stick with the current setup: “The Navara is a smaller truck than the Frontier. It makes more sense for Nissan to redesign the existing Frontier platform than to spend significant money and resources developing the Navara platform and developing a new North American truck from it.
This is also a point to follow. “The decision to bring the product to market required a significant investment,” Billy Hayes, vice president of regional operations for Nissan North America, told the news site. “It’s not easy to bring a product from another market to America.”
Fortunately, Nissan is putting a lot of effort through targeted weight reduction to improve on-road refinement, off-road agility, crash resistance and fuel economy.
Nissan Frontier: Hands On With A Great Looking Midsize Truck
Don’t expect many engine surprises. Nissan introduced its new 3.8-liter, 310-horsepower V6 in February as an update to the current truck, and it will also be the new truck’s main engine. With 93 percent new parts, it makes 281 lb-ft of torque and offers a 49 hp increase over the old 4.0-liter V6.
It’s mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission (no manual, sorry) that sends power to the floor through the rear wheels as standard or to all four, with an electronically controlled transfer case and selectable multi-train modes.
There’s no word yet on electrification, but it’s safe to assume a variant is in the works for Ford’s next Ranger PHEV model’s take.

The new Frontier will debut as a MY2022 offering early next year, with production expected to continue at Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi plant in king-cab and triple-cab configurations.
It competes with the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, Honda Ridgeline, Hyundai’s upcoming Santa Cruz and RAM’s reincarnated Dakota.
