Pottery Barn Colors Benjamin Moore 2020 – By far the most common question I get is about paint colors. I totally understand. Choosing paint colors for a piece of furniture, a room, or your entire home can be a daunting process. I love to paint – no surprise there, and I have painted and repainted (and repainted) every room in my house. As my taste and style have changed over the years, so has the color palette in my home. I systematically paint rooms in my home using soft and warm neutrals and soothing blues.
Since I have received many questions about the colors used, I have compiled them all and am sharing them today. All colors are Benjamin Moore.

The main floor of our home is very open and most spaces are interconnected. I painted the entry, living room, dining room, living room and hallway in Balboa Mist to give the open spaces a sense of flow and cohesion. It is a warm and soft neutral gray color. I would describe it as “grey” with shades of gray. All the trim and wall coverings in our house were painted a favorite color, but it was very close to Benjamin Moore “Cloudy White,” a soft creamy white that isn’t too yellow.

I recently painted our small powder room with “Cumulus”. Similar to “Balboa Mist”, but a shade or two darker.
The kitchen has very little wall space. Just the bar above the cupboard, above the window and in front of the fridge. I painted it a very soft and warm light gray called Silver Satin.
The master bedroom has six windows, so it gets lots of natural light. I painted it in “Classic Grey”, which is a very nice light grey.

I recently updated my daughter’s bedroom. You can see his tour of the entire room here. He wanted the walls to be painted a calm and soothing blue. We chose the “Glass Sleeper”. It is very blue with gray undertones.
I added a pop of color with “Newburyport Blue” in the guest/kids bathroom. You can find a full tour of the room here.
The office is on the first floor, but separated from the rest of the house by French doors, making it a good candidate for a different color. I painted it “Grey Wisp” which is blue/green/grey. I love it with end tables that I painted in General Finishes Tavern Green.

Undertones in White What are color undertones Undertones are the result of mixing more than one color, such as black and blue (to make blue) or green and blue (to make turquoise). The dominant color, sometimes called the mass tone or overtone, is the color you perceive. The color you don’t see is the undertone. From paintzen.com
First, undertones will play a big role in how we perceive a paint color. We use undertones to talk about a color in contrast to other colors. So it’s either cooler/warmer or cleaner/mudder in comparison.
Let me tell you an example. Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace BM is warmer than Pure White. In comparison, BM Pure White and Chantilly Lace are cooler than Simply White with yellow undertones. Benjamin Moore Pure White is the most beautiful of these whites and has a gray undertone.

The easiest way to determine the undertone of a color is to compare it to true white. If you’re still not sure about the undertone, place it next to the base color and see what color it likes. When paired with blue, red or yellow, you’ll probably be able to pick a subtle color that she’s leaning towards.
Make a short list of your favorite colors and note the undertones. Then make a bracket of your favorites (like the last four) and compare them to each other and go to the next step in the bracket and write whether it is cold or hot.
Before you start painting an entire room with a color from this list, you’ll want to consider a few other things, so keep reading. Be prepared to paint large sample panels before painting.

Like I said, we want you to really love the color you choose, so let’s take the time to go through the steps that will give us the best results. We will start with the analysis of the rooms, and then we will paint the sample panels.
First, you’ve probably heard me say this 100 times. Have a plan. A whole room plan (or even a whole house plan). Before you start painting, you need to put together a complete plan of the room. Whether you’re keeping existing furniture or starting from scratch with everything, make a plan.
Use an app like Canva to create a board with images of the items you’ve already chosen. If you haven’t bought anything yet, start with Pinterest and identify rooms you like. Make a list of things you have in common. Use these elements to plan the room.

Once you have a complete list of everything you think you’ll need, plan the space with a planner like this one.
No, that’s not a mistake, huh! I repeat myself, because this is the basis of a solid room design. Sometimes we go wrong even after planning. But if you have a thorough plan, I promise you’ll spend less on things that don’t work in color, style, and size.
Make sure the plan includes dimensions and allows for movement between traffic patterns and space for furniture, seating for drinks and books, and plenty of lighting.
