Tiny Bits Of Happiness
In general, it is difficult to generalize about Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paint prices without specific information about the factors that affect prices. However, it is not uncommon for professional painters to receive discounts or better prices on varnishes from wholesaler status or as part of exclusive programs offered by paint companies. We recently completed reviews of all the best products from three leading paint brands: Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and PPG. With our reviews done, it’s time to put these products side by side and look at the pros and cons of each.
Today we will be reviewing Sherwin Williams SuperPaint and Benjamin Moore Ben. We compare the fit, coverage, coverage, durability, price and availability of the two products.
Application refers to how smoothly the paint flows from the brush. Between Superpaint and Ben, Superpaint is easier to use. Benjamin Moore’s product is quite loose, meaning it feels a bit runny when painted. This makes spraying easier and generally harder to control.

Concealment refers to the paint’s ability to hide surface imperfections. In terms of overall results, Ben Moore certainly looks better. With Superpaint, you can clearly see some of the grooves and bumps on the wall, and in Ben’s sample, it looks more balanced.
Concealment can also be defined by gloss. The higher the gloss, the more noticeable the imperfections in the wall.
Coverage refers to how effectively the paint can cover a surface. Benjamin Moore wins easily here. Covers most of Ben Benjamin Moore’s face with one coat. Superpaint also covers well, but there are noticeably more holes in the coat and it thins a lot sooner than Ben.
Benjamin Moore Versus Sherwin Williams
Better coverage means less paint is needed to get the job done. This is offset by Ben’s high price, which we’ll get to in a moment. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Benjamin Moore goes much further per gallon than Superpaint.
While painting our test samples, we ran a series of durability tests. We tried scrubbing the walls with our hands and feet (it glows) and used a wet cloth and magic eraser on the patterns. Magic erasers are particularly harsh on paint because they are chemically abrasive and cannot be cleaned off walls at all.
In terms of results, Ben saved the best. Compared to Superpaint, Ben’s product was less scratchy and more Sherwin Williams products came off with Ben’s Magic Eraser.

At retail, Sherwin Williams Superpaint and Benjamin Moore’s Ben are about the same price. However, if you go through a supplier like Heritage (which is always better than doing it yourself), the Sherwin Williams product will be much cheaper. Sherwin Williams offers more bulk discounts to contractors, meaning the total cost to the consumer is much lower when you go with a contractor.
That said, even with Ben Moore’s excellent coverage, their product is still a bit more expensive.
Although not directly related to paint quality, affordability is also an important factor. Depending on where you live, Benjamin Moore products may be more difficult to find. For example, in Indiana (where we are located) there are only a few Benjamin Moore stores compared to the many Sherwin Williams locations.

Since Benjamin Moore is not as readily available as Sherwin Williams products, it is slightly more expensive to purchase, further increasing the price of an already expensive product.
It’s a little twist with Superpaint. Ben. In terms of sheer quality, Benjamin Moore’s Ben stands out in this category. However, its high cost and low availability (in some areas) make it difficult to justify. Even if it’s objectively better, it’s hard to say whether the difference in quality is worth the extra money and headaches that come with it.
