Sherwin Williams Oil Based Exterior Primer – Everyone loves the same store. People flock to supermarkets like Walmart because we can bank, get a haircut, pay taxes, get our car oil changed, and shop for a week’s worth of groceries under one roof. When it comes to a home improvement project, most of us head to the big box store because it forces us to shop downtown. You are very comfortable. But there is a lack of expertise in these areas. When I have a home improvement project, I usually go to Home Depot or Lowe’s to get all my supplies. But if I need specific parts, or expert advice on non-routine repairs, I go straight to the parts dealer I shop at because I know they have the products to solve specific problems. The picture is the same. It’s good to prepare and start the life of a paint job, but most people won’t use water at all, or they’ll reach for a multi-purpose product like Kielz – as the name suggests – in any case. The Band Aid brand has become synonymous with paint primers in the same way that adhesive bandages have become synonymous. While these products have their place, a special primer will do a much better job and, more importantly, is not the best choice for a long-term project. In this week’s article, we’ll talk about some of our favorite tips for homeowners that you may not have heard of but want to add to your arsenal the next time you pick up a brush. Multi-Purpose Starter I know I’m contradicting myself here, but if you do as many projects around the house as I do, it makes sense to have a multi-purpose starter. Without a doubt, my favorite product is the Zinsser Bullsye 1-2-3. Water-based for easy cleaning, suitable for indoor or outdoor use, can be used in various areas, effective in preventing certain stains, quick drying and reasonable price. My only concern is that it is on a thin joint. If this is a problem for you, a good alternative would be Serwin-Williams’ Multi-Purpose Latex Primer/Seal. It’s a much richer product than Bullseye, but IMHO it’s less versatile. New Drywall and Interior Bare Primer For my money, the cadillac of new drywall should be Sherwin-Williams Premium Wall & Wood Primer. Unlike generic PVA primers that you can buy anywhere, the extra money you pay will make a big difference in the quality of your finish, especially if you are a discerning customer who really appreciates a comfortable wall. The same goes for shaving tables. I have painted with PW&W Primer along with other quality products and it is easy to see the difference. This creates a nice finish and allows for a richer, more even color and a smoother texture to the surface. It also smudges easily when dry, so if you want to smooth out imperfections in your finish, it can be a real joy to work with. The only damage is expensive; It can be expensive if you don’t sell it. Color Blocking Primer For tough stains that bleed into most paints and coats, such as smoke and water stains, you can use a color blocker: Zinsser BIN Primer. This product is already famous for its performance. BIN Primer doesn’t just cover stains, it’s the perfect choice for removing smoke odors, fires, and pet stains—and will work when no other options are available. The downside to BIN is that it is a shellac-based product that is permanently thin, difficult to handle and clean, and smells amazing. Not only does it smell bad, but the smoke is so strong that you don’t want to use it anywhere without good ventilation. If you must use BIN in a project, remember to use an alcohol or ammonia cleaner to clean up the mess. Primer Bonding Some areas are too slow for paint or primer to bond, and some situations—such as latex paint over oil—need a little extra help. In these areas, you need a competition that is specially designed for the job. There are many primers that claim to work for this purpose, but none that I have found work as well as the XIM 400. The only problem is that it is solvent-based, so cleaning is not as easy as other water-based methods, but the difference in efficiency is a small price to pay. In some areas it may be difficult to meet the new VOC regulations currently in effect, but XIM is creating a low VOC alternative. Outdoor wood grill Sometimes slower is better – and not just when you’re grilling BBQ pork. There are quick-drying, easy-to-clean options for all kinds of products these days, but I’m still old school when it comes to outdoor wood, especially wood cabinetry. I love the tried and true technology of light drying oil. And the king of oil-based wood primers has to be Sherwin-Williams Outdoor Oil-Based Wood Primer. Because it dries slowly (up to 24 hours), it has more time to penetrate the surface of the wood, allowing it to crack and last longer. What makes it so great, and what keeps people from using it, is that its base is oily and very dry. But, sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. Concrete Primer Concrete is a different animal than other substrates, and it deserves a primer that meets its unique needs. Sherwin-Williams has a concrete called Loxon. Lockson Concrete and Masonry Primer is the most versatile choice for homeowners. LC & MP is good because it can be used in areas with high pH levels – where other primers fail in the same application, it will leave porous surfaces to help retain water, it will resist fluorescence (deposits that form a salty and white surface . ), and the paint is very expensive. When preparing an exterior paint surface, it is better not to paint, but spread the edges and clean the bare areas before covering. But I found that sometimes I didn’t want to stop cleaning the paint. There are times when you can seal those edges using a bonding primer like Zinsser Peel Stop instead of damaging the entire surface. Suspension Shell can be used indoors and outdoors, is water-based, and can be used in a variety of locations. It can also seal paint cracks and chipped surfaces. Clean Inhibitive Primer Bare metal surfaces, even when painted, will corrode unless primed and a thin inhibitory primer is used to protect them. There are many acrylic (water-based) ring primers out there, but I have not been impressed with their performance. I don’t think there is a substitute for a good solvent primer in this case, but good solvent inhibitor primers don’t really exist in their original form because the shoe manufacturers have to renew them. new VOC guidelines. But the best thing about it is that I am partial to Kim’s SW Chromic Universal Metal Primer. The problem is that this product is actually under the company’s commercial products, so you won’t find it on store shelves. However, they beat other contractor products and if you are willing to dig deep into your pocket, they will happily sell it to you. A less expensive option is their red label All Oil Enamel Primer. It can be used indoors or outdoors and is very durable. Liquid Masking Primer Window Masking Liquid H2O is a really nice product that can be used on glass when painting window frames.
