I can help you find the right paint colors and materials from the comfort of your own home. [section] Choosing paint colors can be a daunting task. We often feel pressured to come up with a good color for our walls and to shift our focus away from “plain white” in favor of something creative or eye-catching. But the classic white color, the default for ceilings and windows around the world, is having a moment. Designers love it because of its versatility, the ability to display a wide range of shades and the clean palette it offers. White paint can be subtle or it can be a big story in itself—and when done right, it’s never dull. Here, we asked local designers and interior designers to share their tried-and-true “perfect whites.” [Part]
Brownstone Boys: The Difficult Decision Of Choosing The Right White Paint
Interiors by Moyanne are now proud to offer Farrow and Ball paints. These colors are tried and true as Farrow and Ball is the oldest paint company in the world. They come in a variety of finishes, including two of my favorites – “Modern Emulsion”, a satin finish, and “Estate Eggshell”, a semi-gloss finish. Combining these two shades in one color creates a tone-on-tone effect.
Farrow and Ball paints have a better texture, are pre-mixed and contain more titanium dioxide (more pigment) than most American paints, giving customers better wall protection and a brighter shine. This paint also has one of the lowest VOCs (volatile organic compounds) available.
One of the best things about Farrow and Ball is that it goes a little further because of its nature. It’s incredibly effective and easier to use than chalk paint on furniture.
Trending Paint Colors For Your Doors
As for the whites, Farrow and Ball “All White” and “Wevet” have a nice soft finish, but my favorite is “Strong White” with a hint of gray.
White wall paint seems to be the trend, although in our area it still seems to be in subtle variations of gray, gray-gray and gray-blue wall colors. When you see white walls, you also see white window treatments and furniture with colorful accents added to the accessories. It can be a pillow, a cover on a curtain or a bouquet of flowers. This “monochrome” look creates a calming atmosphere where the tones of color stand out more, allowing you to switch to bright colors when needed. I often look at my clients space and decide if they need a white wall, or a subtle variation of white with a cream tint, or a completely different shade. I recommend if you are doing a white or cream colored wall, add text interest. It can be a casting, a painting process or even a mask. This helps create space.
The color I like to use is Sherwin-Williams White Flour (SW 7102). Note that although white is neutral, there are many different types of white. White with pink, white with cream, white with gray etc. You can buy a test can and paint the test area. I paint mine on a foam board and watch the paint change color day and night depending on the amount of natural light and the type of bulbs you have in your lights. All of these changes change the color of your paint. It is better to take your time because it saves money and work. Look to your durable pieces for inspiration for the right shade of white, such as cabinets, counters and furniture. Compare your painted board to these areas to make sure the “white” complements your solids.
Which White Paint Color Is Right For You? — Kat Robbins Interiors
I write this program in my library. The walls are Benjamin Moore’s White Dove (OC-17) in a washed matte color. The frame and beads are also White Dove, but in semi-gloss. I’m in heaven. Why? Because I am surrounded by a blank canvas for color, texture, art and furniture. Everything I put in the game (drapes, art, rugs, upholstery) contrasts with the walls and makes a big impression. Therefore, white rooms are often carefully designed and arranged in a relaxing way. Some of my favorite whites are Benjamin Moore’s Simply White (OC-117) and Cloud White (OC-130).
Benjamin Moore’s color of the year is Simply White (OC-117). I’m using it now upstairs in downtown Lynchburg and I love it! White paint brightens up spaces and helps give the room a much-needed, airy feel. Many designers combine it with white upholstered pieces and allow pictures, cushions and rugs to add color to the area.
There are a few things to keep in mind when using a monochrome color scheme. Consider adding different shapes. For example, white walls look great with a large jute rug, canvas sofas, fabric cushions and rustic side tables. Thanks to designers like HGTV’s Joanna Gaines, shiplap is in high demand. Painted in white, it also adds texture to the room. And don’t be afraid to add color with pillows and pictures. However, try to keep window treatments neutral. White walls will require more maintenance (think scratches, stains and small children’s fingerprints), so make sure you get a good quality, durable paint that can be wiped clean.

If you’ve looked at a paint chart lately, you might be surprised to see 12 or more shades of white that you can think of. It is always bright white, while others may have pink, gray, blue or yellow colors, which only confuses the owner of the house.
Personally, I have preferred to use a white shade for the finish and in most cases I have an eggshell finish instead of a semi-gloss finish.
I recently selected Lynchburg’s Design House 2015 Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White (OC-149) with eggshell. I noticed that the tone of this shade of white matches the white pattern of the scroll on the paper, while the eggshell gives an overall incomplete look that matches the wallpaper and the home. The color and finish looked clean, fresh and fresh. I liked the finished look.
White Flour (7102)
I always encourage homeowners to use any shade of white to take home a sample and match it with the paint or wallpaper they are using. Light affects color, and the lighting in the store can be completely different than at home.
I have two favorite whites that can be found locally at James T. Davis: Snowbank (545-1) from Pittsburgh Paints and Melting Glacier from Davis Paints.
Whites can be treacherous because of their hidden shadow. These two are easy to make that aren’t too yellow or pink. They look great on walls, trims or ceilings. I like to use a lot of colors with different shades of white in the room (eg cabinets / trims / wall / ceiling). It creates structural and visual interest if done correctly. Depending on the application, the matte / eggshell finish is suitable for walls that need a light touch, and also hides imperfections well. In high traffic areas, satin is suitable and very durable to wash. For the finish, semi-gloss and high gloss are good choices. My all-time favorite is eggshell if I had to choose, but I really like to tone down the gloss level in the room as much as I do with the colors.
Designer Approved Off White Color Paints To Try
I love the colors on the walls, but if I had to choose white, Sherwin-Williams Dover White (SW 6385) is my choice. White paint can have a blue or golden brown color. I usually stay away from gray; gold or bronze shades are hot and I really like them. I love aged white or bleached furniture; the same method can be used for walls. Flat paint is easily repaired if you make a mark on it
