To immediately coat new bare wood, rub wet wood with Cabot’s New Wood Prep, following label directions. Prepping new wood will remove surface tannins and oils faster, saving you the 4-6 weeks of aging required for new wood. Always follow label directions for treating new wood with Cabot’s Deck Clean. Remove excess surface water with a Cabot Deck Prep Brush and allow the wood to dry for at least 1 hour. Note: Cooler conditions can slow the wood’s drying time.

Strip back the bare wood with a paint stripper or sanding. Clean exterior surfaces with Cabot’s Deck Clean according to label directions.
Cabot Solid Color Acrylic Deck Stain
Exterior surfaces should be cleaned with Cabot’s Deck Clean according to label directions. Check that the surface is ready for painting by sprinkling the wood with water. If water droplets appear on the surface, repeat the Deck Clean application. Once the water has soaked into the wood, it is ready for painting. For a cleaner look, sand the wood to the bare surface, then clean it with Cabot Deck Clean before applying the coating. Weathered and Gray Wood For best results, return the wood to its fresh surface. Clean with Cabot’s Deck according to label directions.
2. Using a brush or pad applicator, apply liberally over the entire length of the board, including exposed edges and end grain. The initial milky color helps the product apply evenly, drying to a translucent finish.
3. Allow the first coat to dry for 2 hours, then apply the second coat in the same manner.
