Most people like it flat, but if I’m painting I’ll check and see what kind of finishes are available in the paint. I’m going to stick with latex.

Always use semi-gloss, even on the ceiling! That’s because the “light” is reflected to make it look brighter, and you can still easily wash them off! The enamel is very dirty and smelly; work hard; semi-gloss stick works on everything, including ceilings! You will be amazed at the difference!

Plus, it’s super easy to clean; if you are still painting and finishing the next day; wrap your brushes or rollers in plastic wrap; put in the freezer; a little the next day does them good too! (Can you see I did it once or twice?)
I wouldn’t use semi-gloss on the ceiling because it will show cracks and you want the accent to be on the wall. Semi-gloss is commonly used in bathrooms. For the salon, I would tone down the shine and use pearlescent or eggshell – easy to clean, but darker than flat.

I don’t think the size of the walls alone is important. My granddaughter painted one of her walls dark purple and the other three white – she used the wall opposite the outside window because of the dark color.
