Proclassic Interior Acrylic Latex Enamel – It has been the professional painter’s preferred choice for many interior paint jobs. Its hard and durable finish makes it ideal for doors, windows, trim, furniture and other home and commercial applications. Now, Sherwin-Williams has launched the next generation of ProClassic water-based acrylic-alkyd enamel, available in two of the most popular shades for interior decoration – satin and semi-gloss.
ProClassic Interior Waterborne Acrylic-Alkyd Enamel provides the smooth, elegant finish of alkyd enamel with an easy waterborne acrylic formula. So when the job is done, soap and water is all that’s needed to clean up. The hard finish, which is resistant to nail polish, lasts and allows customers to erase fingerprints and smudges without spoiling the beautiful shine for years.

The water-based formula also has lower VOCs than traditional alkyd-based enamels, so it meets strict VOC regulations. And unlike many solvent-based enamels, ProClassic’s next-generation acrylic-alkyd enamel resists yellowing, so colors stay true over time.

Whether you’re painting residential shelves or commercial door trim, next-generation ProClassic water-based acrylic alkyd enamel is the ideal choice. And it is suitable for properly prepared interior wood, plaster, metal, concrete and masonry surfaces.
Residential painting contractors will notice the ease of flow and leveling of the improved formula, and homeowners will appreciate the improved block durability – allowing them to strip doors, windows and shelves back to their former uses, with less disruption to daily activities.
If you previously chose ProClassic Interior Alkyd Enamel, but are looking for a lower VOC coating without sacrificing the silky texture of alkyd enamel, look no further than ProClassic Interior Waterborne Acrylic Alkyd Enamel Next Generation.

From bathroom cabinets to kitchen cabinets and everywhere in between, we’ve painted our fair share. of cabinets. Here are the products and common questions we get about painting cabinets with a brush and roller.
As we’ve shown for many DIY projects, painting is truly one of the cheapest ways to update your home and cabinets.
We know that professionals can have different opinions on colors etc. However, we tend to stick more with latex based products because we are a DIY painter’s best friend and these methods have worked for us over the years.

Choose the right base, so we recommend using latex-enamel paint on the cabinets. If your cabinets are already painted, you can probably skip the prep step. We talk all about how to paint cabinets on our kitchen island paint page.
Choosing the right color is probably one of the most important things. I would also argue that choosing the right primer can be more important when considering painting all the cabinets in your home.
Little House On The Corner: Master Bathroom Updates (and A Motivation Problem)
I’ve read post after post by other people that you don’t have to design your closets. Honestly, I feel like ours has stood the test of time because of the foundation. Don’t skip this step!!
Don’t let the price scare you. Just be sure to buy these colors when they are on sale for 30% off Sherwin Williams regularly has them on sale. They usually have a 40% discount sometime during the year.
In the past, I always used latex enamel paint when painting cabinets. I am a big fan of the Sherwin Williams ProClassic line.

However, after using Sherwin’s newer Emerald Urtherane Trim Enamel, I will never use another cabinet color.
The only downside was that the cabinets were sticky to the touch for a few days. But if we could survive with toddlers and not destroy the closets, so can you!
If you plan to paint your kitchen cabinets while you’re away or feel bad odors, Kilz Primer, Bin Shellac, or another oil-based primer is a good choice.

Professional painters will say you need an oil based primer to stop the tannin or natural bleeding that occurs in the wood. You should be able to handle the smell and mess even if you are using an oil based foundation.
Our favorite primer was Sherwin Williams Multi-Purpose Latex Primer because of how easy it was to use.
Since it is water based, you may experience some color bleeding over time. We painted the oak kitchen cabinets over 7 years ago and only have one stubborn door where you can see some discoloration. I just added another layer of color.

Latex enamel paint gives you the benefits of enamel paint, such as a harder finish, without the environmental problems of oil-based enamel paint.
Latex enamel paint can also be cleaned with soap and water. Latex is rubber mixed with oil paint to create a latex enamel paint hybrid that will also dry faster than traditional oil based enamel.
We love how our repainted kitchen cabinet island turned out with Sherwin Williams urethane enamel paint (don’t worry, it’s mixed with latex for easy cleanup).

According to the SW website, “This is a modified urethane based alkyd for indoor/outdoor use with the look and feel of an alkyd/oil finish.” Translated it will look like an oil based paint, but it has the advantages of being latex based.
Check out this post and video if you need help with step-by-step instructions on exactly how to paint cabinet doors with a small foam roller and brush.
Sherwin Williams Emerald paint is expensive (especially if you don’t buy on sale). I also didn’t care for Behr’s charcoal blue latex enamel that we used to paint our cabinets and bathroom frame.
The Best Paint For Your Cabinets: 7 Options Tested In Real Kitchens
However, for some reason the high contact areas of our railing seemed to get a weird finish that I couldn’t get anywhere with Sherwin Williams paint.
So, I’ll probably stick with Benjamin Moore’s SW latex enamel or similar. I’m glad I tried a cheaper brand as it was a bit thinner and dripped easier.
Our painted bathroom cabinets are in our kid’s bathroom and still look amazing (even though the kids can give away the cabinets).
How To Clean A Paint Brush And Roller Cover
However, our railing is getting a little more wear and tear and there are a few spots that looked like they were ripped from the vacuum cord that was rubbed on the end over and over again.
In the near future I am sure I will repaint the already painted wood with a high quality latex enamel paint.
Behr paint was also thinner than its Sherwin Williams counterpart. A third coat of paint was needed.
Cure Time For Proclassic
I wouldn’t recommend this color for big projects, but it was perfect for our smaller projects (you can see all the ways we used this charcoal blue color).
I have seen other DIY bloggers use satin deco paint and/or oil based glaze. And if you don’t want to paint but still want an easier way to restore your cabinets, check out our gel stained bathroom cabinets.
