Best Exterior Home Colors For Energy Efficiency — Absolute A Painting Company

Earth tones and nature-inspired color palettes are the way to go in 2022. Aegean Olive is a warm, dark green color that we love for clients who want to go basement. It’s a great accent color, but our designers recommend it as a base color, like a solid brick house.

Benjamin Moore’s dark forest green is one of our favorite outdoor shades of 2022. It’s a dark green shade with an LRV of 2.72, meaning it’s dark (learn all about LRV – and why it matters – here). We love the weight, warmth and complexity of Green Forest Black.

On the lighter side of greens and khakis is one of our favorites for 2022: Benjamin Moore’s Sussex Green. It’s still on the dark end, with an LRV just shy of 20, but it feels fresh and warm, especially in areas that get a lot of natural light (like the desert, above). We like to combine Sussex Green with copper accents.

Running through the greens, but in a dry dark neutral zone, is a deep river. It is a dark gray color with blue undertones. Our designers turn to Deep River especially for buyers who want a modern farmhouse look with minimal touches.

Ocean Floor is another Benjamin Moore deep gray, but the blue undertones are more pronounced than Deep River. It has an LRV of 12.5, so it’s still dark. If you’re looking for a blue home in 2022, Ocean Floor should be on your radar.

Midsummer Night is our founder Alison’s favorite color. (Is it called our outdoor color of 2022? Stay tuned!) It’s a dark, dramatic, neutral dry color with an LRV of 5.8. We consider Midsummer Night to be blackish brown. It’s perfect for outdoor and beach vacation homes—or bring a holiday treat to your abode year-round. (Note: This color is also used in the demo at the top of this post.)

Our next home exterior color for 2022 is profound: black beauty. Black home exterior designs will remain in style through 2022, and we expect more homeowners to embrace the beauty of black, especially as the closest shade to black.

Classic Gray is definitely a white color and is the softest exterior color on our list. It has a soft purple color that you should recognize, but we know that it doesn’t always show its face. Classic gray is a timeless neutral with lasting power.

And some of their paint colors are perfect for homeowners looking for modern exterior color palettes. Anonymous is a dark neutral color palette. It’s a brown-green-gray color – it’s a perfect match, meaning the accent and surroundings play a big role in how it reads. Due to the beautiful environment and wood and colors close to black in the design of the house, first we see green, then brown and a little gray. (See how it reads differently in the giveaway at the end of this post!)

Sherwin-Williams iron ore has been in brick and mortar for some time, and we plan to continue promoting its use in 2022. It is a rich charcoal color with softness and warmth. Its lack of tone makes it easy to combine with a wide range of other colors and materials.

Living in the gray but bright world of travel, Dorian Gray is the next Sherwin Williams color on our list. Dorian Gray with LRV 39 is a neutral and warm color. We often recommend this color to clients looking for a traditional or comfortable transitional design.

Black Fox is a bold and sophisticated neutral that we’re drawn to for use in modern and contemporary home and commercial designs. It’s a dark-black shade similar to Midsummer’s Night (above), but slightly lighter on the LRV scale.

Caviar is a color close to black that we use more often. It brings the drama and depth that many of our customers love.

Beige is back and field gray is our beige of choice for 2022. It also looks amazing with whites, next to blacks and wooden beams in the color range. Gray Square offers an outdoor ski lodge with a modern feel and perfect for hockey. We are big fans.

Finally, we moved on to another interesting color that makes us constantly question our knowledge of marine biology: porpoise. Are parts really black sheep? And what is the difference between them and dolphins? That’s why we are color experts. However, Porpoise is a neutral midrange specialist that we all see the most. It’s actually the same color as Benjamin Moore’s Deep Creek, with the same LRV. Porpoise has a little blue in the mix, but we can hardly tell the difference between these colors at a quick glance.
