Sherwin Williams Anew Gray Exterior – Our house has been beautiful for a long time. The exterior, however, is a completely different story. The previous owner’s wife was obviously a big fan of the color blue, hence the blue carpet in the house when we bought it, and the beautiful blue trim and shutters on the outside of the house. I’m pretty sure our paint color scheme was all the rage in the 70’s, but I’ve had a hard time seeing it for the past year. All I’ve been thinking about for the past few months has been color to put together the exterior paint project. Choosing the color was quite difficult as we don’t have many paintable surfaces on the front and sides of our house as it is mainly limestone. That said, we need to find colors that blend well with the stone but don’t stand out too much. We knew we wanted the siding surface to be gray, but we actually chose gray swatches that were too dark. After buying $60.00 worth of samples and painting our house random colors, we were finally able to make some decisions. Check out these samples…
Although buying swatches doesn’t make sense, it was worth the money and time to paint at home. If we went with what we really thought, we would make some big mistakes. We decided on 3 Sherwin Williams colors: New Gray for the siding, Pure White for the trim, and Tricorn Black for the shutters and French doors.

We originally planned to subcontract the exterior paint job, but it got a little wild and we decided to take on the project ourselves with the help of my wonderful mother-in-law. Trent, my 36 week pregnant, and Mill painted the whole house in two days! This picture shows that I had a hand in this 😉
I almost went into labor after two full days of standing in 100 degree heat, but the job is done and it looks great.
We are so relieved to have this project added to the to-do list before the baby arrives (any day now 😁). As usual, we finish one project and start another (or ten). As you can see in the photos below, Trent has begun laying limestone beds throughout the yard. You still have to dig earth, throw stones and mortar everywhere. We had enough limestone to cover all of our back and side yards, so it had its work cut out for it. It’s safe to say I’ll take that job and leave the dirty manual work to him (and Conleg😉).
