But, I have to say, Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008) is the most requested paint color for kitchen cabinets. And it’s easy to see why! It’s a good choice when you’re looking for a nice, clean white that’s not too harsh and definitely not too warm.

For today’s project, I’ll show you how I transformed those dated oak cabinets from MEH to WOAH with a fresh coat of SW Alabaster White.

Alabaster has an LRV (light reflectance value) of 82, which means it reflects light easily and brightens up your kitchen. Although many question whether alabaster has a yellow color, it depends on the light. However, it never struck me as leaning towards a light beige, light off white, more creamy.

Actually, no! So many people like it. Color balance is perfect with subtle tones and just the right amount of brightness.
For my clients, I usually pair it with a lighter variation of alabaster color. For example, if the kitchen cabinets have SW Alabaster, I paint something like SW White Rice (SW 60011), Almond White, or semi-transparent Sherwin Williams Ecru (SW 70022).
I find Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray pairs really well with Alabaster and gives a nice, clean look when used in the kitchen.

When it comes to cream paint colors, there are few problems like Sherwin Williams Antique White. The thing is, like wall paint, it’s beautiful, but it’s often used on kitchen cabinets or decorations and that’s where the problems start.

, it’s actually a yellow shade with a neutral base added to tone it down. With this neutral base, it can take on hints of orange, red (pink) or green; We will soon see which one is antique white.
Favorite White Kitchen Cabinet Paint Colors
If you have a north-facing room, antique white can be a great way to balance that cool natural light (it works well in east-facing rooms too). If your room faces south or has western afternoon sun, the old white will lean more towards its south without looking too much like the day.
Antique Cream has an LRV of 72, which could be a great depth for your walls if you want a cream with a little more body than other popular cream paint colors. However, it’s not so deep that it looks heavy or dated.
On the other hand, this is one of the reasons why an LRV of antique white is not an ideal trim or cabinet color. The “average” LRV for trim and paint cabinets is 82-94. With an LRV of 72, you are showing white and well beyond the “light” range. Antique white definitely has a little more meat on its bones than traditional white or off-white paint colors, and its

1. As a cabinet or trim color, a shade or two darker is best, often when people are painting more rooms than they want or when they want to update cream cabinets. Trim it with a more modern wall color.
White antique cabinets (or trim) do not want to be paired with colors that are the same depth or lighter.

The next photo shows the old white kitchen island along with the trim work. Although it pairs well with a stone fireplace, it is creamier than the basic tones of travertine tile flooring (travertine is usually orange-pink in color). I mean, the combo is DOABLE, but it’s a bit strong.
In the example above, my computer design client was looking for a new WALL color and didn’t want to change the trim (which makes sense when the whole house is included). I gave him some new wall color options as well as some suggestions about the kitchen island to tone down the old white in this space.

Antique White is a cream color with a yellow undertone. Some creams may be slightly yellow-orange or yellow-green. Antique white leans towards orange-yellow, but not too much.
In this next photo, you can see the power of antique white in these painted cabinets. My clients hired me to get a new cabinet color because the old white cabinets clashed with the bottom of the travertine tile backsplash (again, travertine is orange-pink, not yellow).
It depends on your opinion. Antique White will look yellow-ish, but whether you personally find it too strong is up to you. According to an online color consultant, adding yellow to antique white is a challenge as a trim or cabinet color.

Some cream paint colors have a strong neutral base. The more neutral the color, the more flexible it is, and Antique White has more of a hint of color than I’d like.
Here is another beautiful kitchen with cabinets painted in antique white. They tend to read like cream, but there are some that will look shiny, especially if you compare the cabinets to the travertine tile backsplash…
If you want to tone down the yellow associated with white antique trim or cabinetry, you can apply a darker gray or glazed gray, but that doesn’t mean you have more flexibility. The look of the glass is also very 2000s. If you love the look and have no intention of selling, give ‘ER! However, if resale is a consideration, I would reconsider the glazing.
