Sherwin Williams Cedar Stain Colors – Oh yes! When it comes time to decide the right tone for the wood finish in your home – floors, cabinets, stairs, beams, furniture – the opportunity arises to use science and design art to finish things and your personal style. Now, that’s amazing.

I walk into a new building with a client and say, “Wow, I love the color of the unfinished floors—can we have that?” or “I’d like to display my grandmother’s antique buffet here. Can it be used as inspiration for the stains on the existing woodwork, carpets and beams?” The answer is correct, but it takes purpose, knowledge and some experience to get it. That’s right.

Where do I start? Let’s start with a big cleansing breath. Choosing a stain can seem daunting because it is permanent. Of course, there are ways to change it later, but none of them are easy. So it’s best to confirm in advance, so we’re here to help! In this article, I’ll share technical skills gained through formal design studies, project experience, and lots (and lots) of trial and error. Here we go.

Like most natural materials, wood is variable and each species has its own unique characteristics. For example, walnut is strong but light. Cedar is soft and sometimes knotty. Maple is very hard and has a uniform grain. One must take into account how each type of wood differs in its microstructure and absorption rate, not to mention its age and original color. This feature may change from board to board! The point is not to be intimidating, but to inform yourself that you should be familiar with the idiosyncrasies of each wood you intend to stain. Just like the natural world, when you think you’ve got it, wood can surprise you. That’s why we take samples (and samples and samples) to make sure we can find the perfect space for you.

In addition to the nuances of the actual stained wood, it’s important to consider the design aspects surrounding the space. This includes paint and decor colors, natural light and fixtures, and other types of wood, textures, and colors. Placing a stain next to the yellow will bring out the color, while adding a blue-gray stain to the red wood will help tone down the color. Not only does it take a lot of samples to get the stain right, but those samples also need to be brought to the design area where the tree will sit.

We worked here by testing eight popular stains (courtesy of Sherwin Williams) on six different types of wood blocks (provided by 38 Woodwork). Although there are hundreds of paint color options to choose from, Sherwin Williams is my go-to brand and is my go-to tone for most projects. Keep in mind that each stain works differently for each type of wood, including how it activates or deactivates the wood’s natural grain. The top half of each block represents the stain as it is, while the bottom half shows what it looks like after it’s mixed with a little paint (or water in the case of water-based charwood). See, science can be fun!

The art of choosing the right stain brings the ability to consider wood type, the science of color theory, and how the entire design of your table will work together. Ultimately, you’re looking for a general palette that looks purposeful and has a cohesive feel. We’ve made the process a little easier and made this daunting task a little less daunting. If you are ready to choose the right paint for your home, we will be happy to help you think about the design, structure and harmony of each element. That’s what we do.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for showing so much love to our backyard show. The response is amazing, we’re enjoying the new place… I won’t be forced there. Needless to say, I can’t wait for it to pass so we can spend time outside. Since it’s been so hot lately, we started to feel the heat before we even finished the exterior when staining the floor, one of the biggest makeover projects of all. Luckily I was able to do that before the real burners got here. Today I am sharing how I approached this project.

Sherwin Williams Super Deck Water Based Stain Reviews: Is It Any Good?

A key goal for our outdoor space is for it to feel like an extension of our home’s interior. I wanted to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor, and I knew the color of the floor would be a big factor in contributing to that effect. As beautiful as natural redwood is, I don’t want it to be a regular wood floor. I love the warmth of our hardwood floor color inside our home and hope to reflect that outside.

Because we used redwood, it had to wait a few months after it was built before applying a stain or protective coat. This allows the wood and oil to dry well, so it will get a better stain and give a better color result. Construction was completed in February and we let it dry for 5 months before I painted it in July. If you’re working with woods like pine or Douglas fir, you won’t have to wait long before staining. Once I came up with a game plan on how to tackle the project, I ordered a curbside pickup truck and accessories from Sherwin-Williams.

I used a variety of brushes, rollers, steel plates, spray pumps, and Sherwin-Williams Super Tech Cleaner and Stain to complete the project.

As with any painting project, good results start with a clean and prepared surface. I started by removing everything from the deck and wiping it down. After that, I scrubbed well. I use SuperDeck Deck Revitalizer and Siding Brightener to clean and wash the deck. This formula is specifically designed for use on fresh or untreated cedar, redwood, or pressure-treated wood.
