Painting the cabinets was one of the hardest jobs on this list, but honestly, it wasn’t too hard, although it did take time and effort!
I have a lot of cabinets in my kitchen, so I divided the work into 4 parts to make it easier to manage.
And this time I’m using Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel to paint my cabinets. And let me tell you, it’s the best color I’ve ever used!

First, research the look you want, the materials you plan to use, and what your current cabinets are made of.
Take a minute to measure the holes in the hardware. If you currently have cutouts, you want to measure from the center of the hole to the center of the bottom.
This determined what primer I should use and helped me determine if I wanted to keep the hardware measurements the same size or if I wanted to fill my holes and buy new ones.

It’s as simple as it sounds! Simply remove all cabinet hardware, remove cabinet doors from hinges and cabinet hinges.
Pay attention to which cabinet door and which drawer, the same goes for the hinges! This will make it easier to put it back together. You should pay attention to which course is rising and which is falling. So you won’t have to make too many changes when reinstalling.
I wrote down which door was where on duct tape and kept my labeled connections in plastic bags in the closet that belonged to him. When I painted or stained my door, I taped it to the canvas where it dried. It helped me keep track of everything!

If you are planning to buy hardware of different sizes for your doors and windows, then you can fill your holes with plastic board.
I skipped this step for my cabinets. It didn’t have any varnish on it, it was in good shape and had no paint chips or stains, so I left them as is.
I tested the door first with primer and paint to make sure it worked! If you’re thinking of skipping this step, I recommend checking the door first!
The Quality Paint We Use
It is not necessary to remove the result completely. This step will give your liner something to stick to.
If you have filled holes in the material, be sure to sand them until they are flush with the wood.
Once your doors and trim are sanded, it’s time to get to work! The primer I use is made to stick to wood and other materials.

I used my foam rollers and brush for this step, but you can use a sprayer if you prefer. Apply a coat of primer to everything you plan to paint.
I used a brush and roller to apply the paint for the cabinet frame. This color worked really well, even with my brush and roller. I only needed 2 coats for my boxes.
To minimize brush strokes, I would brush on the paint and then roll it on. The finish I got with Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel is perfect.
All Surface Enamel Oil Base
Needless to say…the color (SW Pure White 7005) is my favorite white cabinetry and it works so well in our kitchen! It is light neutral white.
In the most professional way, we put my doors and wheels on top of paint cans to spray horizontally and it worked well. I started with the backs and then spread them out to dry on pieces of wood to raise them off the floor.
Since it’s winter, I’m letting it dry in the basement to regulate the heat and keep it out of the garage junk.

After it was completely dry, I continued. I sprayed a thick coat on the sides and all over during this step as well to get a nice smooth surface.
I usually recommend 2 coats for cabinets, but I did my first coat and loved the coverage and I’m done, so I’m stopping now.
I know I can always add a second layer if I feel the need! Have I mentioned that I’m super impressed with the coverage of this color? They told me I needed fewer coats and they were right.

It was also because I was changing my cabinets from cream to white! If your cabinets are a different color or dark wood, you will definitely need more than one coat.
Leave them to dry (raise again so that the litter does not touch the floor). And place them on top so your paint doesn’t drip or run when it dries.
Once you have 2 layers (or as many layers as you need) and they look the way you want them to, let them dry completely and then move on to the next step.

By the way, I don’t add a top coat because of the durability of the color I’m using! It is durable, yellow and stain resistant and perfect for frequently cleaned surfaces like kitchen cabinets!
Now it’s time to add your tools! It’s easy if you’re using the same hardware or even the same size hardware. Just place them!
If you’re resizing, grab one of these hardware templates to help you figure out where to drill the holes.

Believe me, they make your life easier! Grab your drill and drill bit and drill holes for your new hardware. Then step together!
You will probably need to reattach them to the frame before adding the hardware.
