Trim Color For Accessible Beige – You’ve probably seen the name “Barbara” floating around our account recently. You might be in on the joke, but it’s also very likely that you missed it! Barbara Beige is the paint color we use in our kitchen and in this blog post we cover:

If you’ve been following our kitchen project from the beginning, you know that we went through a lot of trouble finding the right paint colors. Conceptually, we knew we wanted the look of white walls with contrasting beige trim and cabinets. The search began with trying to find the “perfect” white for the walls, which led to finding the perfect cabinet color.

Through much trial and error, we arrived at Sherwin Williams’ Accessible Badge as the final cabinet candidate. It seemed to have the right LVR (light reflectance value), was a warm beige and had the right amount of saturation (not too gray). To start testing it, we decided to try it on the back steps first. You can see the process through this scroll.

All in all we were very happy with it!…but in some lights and especially from above it looked a bit pink. No shade against pink, we love pink, but it wasn’t what we wanted.

In addition to taking samples of the stairs, we got a door sample from our cabinet supplier, Cabinet Joint. They offer a wide variety of standard gray and beige colors, but none of them seem to work for us. They also offer the option of choosing any Sherwin Williams color as a custom color – we ordered a door sample in Affordable Beige.

Our first reaction when the door arrived was “OMG we loved it!” But…it didn’t match the welcoming beige we painted on the back stairs. We knew this was a possibility – Cabinet Joint revealed that the finishing process for prism paint can be slightly different than interior wall paint.

So what did we do? We brought that door sample to Sherwin Williams and asked them to match the color! And it worked! (Surprisingly) When we painted a sample and compared them, they matched perfectly. This was our badge.

So now, with a custom color in hand, we obviously needed a name for it? What would we say when people asked us what color our trim was? That’s why we’re asking you all, and well… I’ll let this TikTok do the talking.

Undertones In Exterior Paint Colors

In the end, “Bárbara” was the winner and has appeared in some posts since then. Here you can see her through our pantry and here is Bárbara in the flesh 💃.

Below is the color code you can take to any Sherwin Williams location and they should be able to do it for you! Note that this is the code for a gallon of emerald urethane topcoat (our topcoat paint of choice), but they should be able to make the necessary conversions for your paint type and size!

Are you considering using Barbara in your home? If you do, please let us know! We loved seeing Bárbara loose in the woods!

Whole House Color Scheme

Previous Previous Our finish profiles and where to find them Next Next A sophisticated look with custom shades, surprisingly easy! When it comes to choosing the perfect neutral paint color, all the options are enough to make anyone sweat. But if you want to follow the timeless trend of contrasting finishes or kitchen cabinets in a neutral color other than white, I’ve got you covered. I’ve tried about a million shades of gray, beige, tan, and taupe in my life (okay, maybe not a million, but let’s just say the people at the paint counter knew me by name). I picked a few of my favorites and used them on the main floor of our house, and I’m here today to give you all the paint and gloss names I’ve used in our house so far, plus a runner-up or two. or five (we love options around here). Let’s go!

Firstly, our sweet country kitchen. I painted the Dunn Edwards “Heather” cabinets (a beautiful gray) with a satin finish because I prefer a little sheen to the wood. Backsplash, trim and walls are “Pure White” by Sherwin Williams. The walls are smooth and glossy, and the finishes and backsplash are semi-gloss for easy cleaning. I will delve more into my favorite shades of white in a later post!

I love the “heather” in our cabinets because this room gets the best heat from the southern light year, making it more beige than usual gray. On cloudy, rainy days, though, it’s the softest shade of warm, dusty gray that never looks purple or blue. This is great if you want a simple, warm gray with brown undertones.

Next places in our cabinets that I hope to use in our laundry room project include: “Roman Plaster” by Behr and “Shaded White” by Farrow & Ball. Both are perfect choices for an off-white that is not too yellow.

Our dining room and living room are next as they flow directly from our kitchen in a semi-open floor plan. To keep the color story consistent in the main area, I painted Dunn Edwards’ “Heather” trim in a satin finish, as did the kitchen cabinets. Runners-up in this spot were “Shadow White” by Farrow & Ball or “River Pewter” by Benjamin Moore. Both are beautiful “heather”-like gray shades.

In my kid’s room, I knew the trim color needed to be warmer than the “heather” tone I’ve used elsewhere, since this room gets direct northern light, which can make the paint colors a little too dark, cold, and green. I chose “Ball and Twine” by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish. It’s a cute top that’s not too khaki. Another good option I played with is “Accessible Beige” by Sherwin Williams.

Speaking of “Ball and Twine” by Sherwin Williams, I also used it this time. It really warms up a darker room as there are no windows in this hallway. I would love to put some traditional wallpaper in this hallway along with some intricate leaf and vine patterns in grayish blue tones. I really think it would go perfectly with the beige finish and warm wooden doors. what do you think? I hope one day I can add this wallpaper to my project list!

The last room I share today is our bedroom. This room has many large windows and is always full of warm sunlight. Again, I painted the trim here in “Heather” by Dunn Edwards with a satin finish. I used the same color but with an eggshell finish on the picture frame wall frames. The moldings are from Luxe Architectural and the chair rail is a simple strip of wood that complements the simple Craftsman finish in our home.
