Everyone knows I love soft, creamy whites. I think they are the perfect neutral backdrop to create a warm and welcoming space in our home. In my opinion, the perfect cream color is one that is neither too dark nor too yellow.

Benjamin Moore Cloud White is just that color. It’s a subtle white color that gives the softest glow to any space. But be careful not to confuse it with BM White Cloud (2159-70), which is a different color.

I love the cream kitchen cabinets and matching beadboard backsplash. Now, to be fair, my closet is a custom color. I mixed with various white people in the breakfast room and living room. But the concept is the same – a cream color that is not white is the most suitable.

Our basement bathroom has white clouds on the walls, Swiss brown in the basement.

One of my favorite interior designers, Mary Flanigan Interiors, often uses white clouds in her work. That’s how I found this gorgeous color, so I’m sharing some amazing highlights here too!

Neutral Paint Colors

Benjamin Moore Cloud White has an LRV (light reflectance value) of approximately 85. LRV is the percentage of light reflected by the color. On a scale of 0-100, 0 is black and 100 is true white. In other words, the higher the LRV, the brighter the color.

LRV 85 means Cloud White is definitely a lighter and brighter color. This will help bounce a lot of light around the room. Personally, I love the use of color in some of these LRVs, as it helps add light to the room and makes a small room seem larger.

Cloud White is a warm white, which means it has a creamy undertone. Depending on your lighting, it can sometimes look a little yellow.

For example, Cloud White will look warm in a room with natural light facing south. On the other hand, in the cold northern light, an extra touch of Cloud White warmth will keep the color from being too cool.

It all depends on your preference – do you like warm white and cream? Or do you want something cleaner and fresher?

There are several ways to approach the undercut paint with a cream color like Cloud White. First, you can paint the cabinets a bright white so they stand out against the creamier walls.

For cloudy whites, try colors like Sherwin Williams Everyday White or Benjamin Moore White Dove. Both are warm white, but a touch sharper than Cloud White, so they offer a nice contrast.

You can paint the cut clouds white! Yes, wall painting and decorating in the same color is a big trend these days. I like this and I like how it really opens up the space and makes it feel more cohesive.

Gray is still a very popular neutral that is often found in interior design. This tone is very good with color. I know we hear this all the time, but it’s true.

I started with Benjamin Moore’s Titanium. This gray has a blue-green undertone and is quite light in terms of actual color intensity.

Wickham Gray next. This gray color has a blue-green undertone, but it may look more green. Remember, the shade that appears and dominates depends on the lighting in your space and the other decorative accessories you associate with it.

Next up is Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl. Gray Owl is similar to Wickham Gray and is also blue green gray.

It’s blue-grey, so there’s no green here. Below you can see where we used Stonington Gray in a client’s kitchen with orange accents. Boy I still love this cushioned kitchen dining design and isn’t it a cute table base we make for our clients?!

My Favorite Shades Of Gray

In the same client’s house, we used Stonington Gray for the front foyer paint color with Cloud White in the custom paint.

I often refer to Stonington Gray and this other gray, Coventry Grey, as the two true grays. Of course, we will always have neutral shades, but when comparing colors to show the client the difference in tonality, I like to show these two colors against the other gray.

Another gray color I highlighted from Benjamin Moore is HC 165, Boothbay Grey. This shade of gray is more blue than the others.

Now we’re going to go a little darker and we have this color, which is Storm, AF-700 from the Benjamin Moore Affinity line.

And finally, we have the HC – 166 Kendall Charcoal. The tone is really deep, powerful and has a greener undertone. This gray is great for exteriors like a bold front door or garage door. It’s also a great way to add drama to any interior design space.
