It is very similar to Sherwin-Williams’ famous Gray Agreeable. But really, even better! It is fresh and clean, although it is darker than Agreeable Grey.
Revere Pewter (HC-172) is also called icing (973). We actually chose Ice Formulas for the client project featured in this post, not knowing there was another name for Revere Pewter!
This color works best in a room with lots of natural or artificial light. It can look a little shiny in cold light, similar to many dark grays.

The LRV of BM Revere Pewter is 55, making it a medium gray. Since it is over 50, it is still considered reflective. It’s light enough to use almost anywhere in the house, and it’s also skin-friendly. As a warm gray, it does not look out of place in strong sunlight – and in fact it is best in rooms that are very bright.

The color works well with the classic design elements of this home’s kitchen, mixing a modern white tile backsplash with warm granite countertops and a tile floor.

Yes, Revere Pewter is a great bedroom color! For this client’s living room, they wanted a color that would complement their beautiful stone. BM Revere Pewter is a perfect match.
It compares beautifully with the warm stone and natural wood flooring in this space. It’s bright enough to make the room light and airy, but the walls are still very colorful.
The Revere Pewter room is gorgeous! In the client’s bedroom below, the color looks warm and inviting, although the room is less light and shadowy than you would normally find when using this color scheme.
Top 10 Benjamin Moore Mid Tone Neutrals (warm To Cool)
When looking for a color for this unique room, we found Ice Formulas by Benjamin Moore (973). We didn’t realize until later that it was the same color as Revere Pewter, but it worked well at this point.
The warm green tones of this color look wonderful combined with the wooden ceiling of the room, wooden floor, and stone.
The light in this room also shows the change of this warm gray color. The color is much lighter around the fireplace where there is plenty of natural light. But it’s still warm and beautiful in the shadier corners of the room.
Agreeable Gray Vs. Revere Pewter (why I Changed My Mind)
Revere Pewter can absolutely work as a base for an entire home color palette. Light gray color can be the main wall color in the whole house or just in one room.
In this client’s home, we used Revere Pewter walls in the kitchen off the kitchen with Revere Pewter cabinetry to connect the two spaces. In an open concept home like this, this is a great neutral color that can be used throughout the living room.
Yes you can! Revere Pewter would be a wonderful all-weather exterior color for the homeowner who wants a bright exterior, but doesn’t want to take the risk of using a white exterior paint that can look too bright in direct sunlight.
Is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter The Best Warm Gray Cabinet Color?
But remember – if your house has a lot of green foliage around it, you can emphasize the green materials of Revere Pewter and make your house look greener than you intended.
Avoid BM Revere Pewter in rooms with very cold lighting or low lighting in general. This color is dark enough to look bright in some rooms like this one. You need a lot of light (natural or artificial) to show its full potential on the wall.
Avoid Revere Pewter in the same room with grays with purple accents such as Collingwood, Repose Gray and Balboa Mist. They can be in adjacent rooms.
