Gray Owl Benjamin Moore Kitchen Cabinets – I don’t know how to start this without a smile on my face. I love gray cabinets, wow! Love, LOVE! If I had to choose two colors to design forever, they would definitely be white and gray … oh, throw in black, because I can’t live without a touch of black. Gray works well in both modern environments, traditional and classic interiors and creates the sense of calm we seek in all the interiors we work with.
Lately, we’ve been loving gray kitchen cabinets and all kinds of cabinets because it’s a far cry from the classic “all white” look. Let’s turn to the gray cabinets and look at them for our next project. Plus, discover our favorite sophisticated and classic gray shades.

The Best Paint For Kitchen Cabinets
I’m sure we’ve missed a few people who are beautiful, but we can think of them instantly, so we have to say something about how much we love them, right? We envision these colors in everything from kitchen cabinets to interior offices, mud rooms, and of course, walls. I remember when we painted BM’s Ikea shoe cabinet in Revere Pewter and it had the most soothing and calming effect, especially paired with an all-white kitchen. I couldn’t recommend these shades of gray more, guys!

Gray is one of my favorite colors. It’s modern yet neutral and goes well with everything. However, due to the large number of shades, this is one of the most difficult wall colors to choose (from personal experience, Benjamin Moore took several samples for our bedroom walls before giving it to Cinderella). For a light gray that works with a variety of colors and decor, I go back to Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl OC-52. It has the closest shade of gray, so it balances well with warm colors like orange, green, and red, as well as cool tones of plum, blue, and silver. Since it’s neutral to work in any room, if you’re looking for a great shade to paint the entire interior.
Tip: Don’t forget that your floors are colored too – even if they’re wooden. Being a native, the Gray Eagle does well with light woods such as pine, oak or hemlock. For clean modern spaces, use Gray Edge with white moldings, trim or cabinetry. For drama, add accessories or furniture in a high-contrast color like black.
Remember that glossy paints reflect more light and can show imperfections on walls and surfaces. For our stone walls, I think a matte finish works best. It is not as abrasive as a flat finish (with the exception of smooth ceiling paints), but with a high-quality paint, the matte paint can be brushed on for a beautiful but durable finish in the kitchen or bathroom.

Our lives have changed a lot since our first tour ten years ago, and the Watershed has also evolved a lot. The last time my husband was at a retail store in Grandview, he came home with a new bottle of his signature bourbon and a new design – hand sanitizer. We recently sat down with founder and CEO Greg Lehman to learn more about their platform.
In 2010, although it was very different from today, there were many problems. The biggest one is weather. We relied on government approval to start selling our spirits, but we had to have a leased distillery with indoor equipment. One of my favorite memories to look back on is the day we placed the order for production. At that time we did not have an official distilling location, so we sent the distilling company to “Columbus, Ohio” and we would determine the exact launch location in the mean time! Of course we did, but it took some serious self-belief. We perfected the recipes and gathered volunteers (friends and family) to keep the fire going. 2010 was a formative year, despite all the difficulties, he built this business.

We needed a relatively open space. We’re lucky to find lots of natural light in Grandview, which is especially helpful during the cold winter months. As we’ve grown, we’ve taken more space around our main footprint and reworked the flow and organization of equipment to best accommodate the additions. We started with a chamber that could produce 60 gallon batches at a time. We now have two large stills, each capable of producing 600 gallon batches at a time.
When we acquired the restaurant space in 2016 and began construction, we prioritized natural materials, an open plan, and direct visibility into the distillery. We know people love to see the distillery and sparkling tanks while working on a cocktail at the bar or dining room. During the warmer months, our rotating glass patio wall allows in natural light and breeze.
When we first started, our “office” was a common table by the door so we could chat with people who came by. As our business has grown, we’ve had to adapt to accommodate additional team members and equipment along with touring. We quickly realized that if we wanted to make a living with bourbon and other spirits, we would need a barrel warehouse to store hundreds of barrels, so we were able to lease from the original distillery and move all the barrels there. Our team is especially grateful for leading our spirit from manual packaging to an automated line five years ago. This greatly increases efficiency.

It took a dedicated team, months of iteration and faith that the spirit of our distillery would shine through in the restaurant. We installed a floor-to-ceiling glass wall between the distillery and the restaurant, giving guests a full view of the distillery. Fortunately for us, copper and stainless steel distillation equipment are superior. We kept some of the restaurant’s industrial design elements, but combined them with our history and values, such as interesting Ohio art geologic maps and stainless steel fixtures. Our tables and chairs are made from very rustic wood crafted by the talented team at Edgework Creative. We want to make sure we bring that handcrafted feel to all of our work, and we hope it resonates.
Before Covid, our distillery tours, private and public events were at their peak. We’ve had the opportunity to connect with community members who know our soul, perhaps long-time fans, and some who may not have tasted our space or products before. Our brand is embodied visually, people connect with our team, and the work we do is valuable. The restaurant is designed to offer a place where our community principle is realized.
