Installing Granite Countertops With Existing Tile Backsplash – Many of the clients we work with are trying to bring a Tuscan kitchen from the late 90s to the early 2000s into a modern white/grey/cream kitchen. Many of them also want to change their backsplash but keep the granite. One of my favorite colorists, Maria Kilim, coined the term “Bossy Granite,” and rightly so. They say there should be only ONE way to be busy in the kitchen. If you have granite with lots of color and movement – this is your ONE model. And that’s the BOSS. The boss of your kitchen palette.

If you’re replacing your backsplash with Bossy Granite, you only have one option – solid color tile. My go-to is white or cream floor tiles. It’s beautiful, timeless and let the granite be large without fighting.

Solid color tile is the ONLY way many people try to liven up their busy granite kitchen.

While we are talking about backsplashes. If your granite is installed with a 5″ granite backsplash on the wall, that’s it. You don’t need a backsplash. This is your backsplash. It looks wrong to put it on top. I should know – I did. Really I break all my rules before I have rules????

After redoing your kitchen with freshly painted cabinets and a new color palette, you can start saving for the NEXT BEST item, quartz countertops. Read what Christy Barnett – Decorologist has to say about quartz countertops. This weekend I got around to the tiles in the back kitchen. I installed the existing tile which was a beige stone that looked like porcelain. Even before you sew, you can already see the difference:

The cream cabinets and backsplash washed out the pink granite in a way that the old beige cabinets and backsplash did not. Success!

The method I chose to use for laying the tiles on the tiles is unusual, so I want to talk about it.

This kitchen DIY of mine is a temporary solution. We plan to redo this kitchen at some point by knocking down the wall behind the sink and counter space. Meanwhile, a quick fix can make this kitchen more “sustainable” and beautiful. Tiling, even temporarily, is one of them. Fast and cheap. But could it be that easy?

Terry’s method, although unconventional – confirmed by the scathing criticism of magicians in his YouTube comments – is, as he says in his video, unquestionable. I like his method: 1. It’s neat and tidy and 2. it allows me to match the tiles flawlessly and 3. it allows me to lay the garden tiles as much as possible and let them heal and save all my cuts for another day. .

You see, my plan is to rent a professional tile saw and make all the cuts in a few hours, making the most of the tool rental time. Then I’ll pick up the tiles where I left off with no distractions to scratch.

Why not stick to it? No one bats an eye when they hear you’re gluing down ceiling boxes or baseboards or anything else that has you walking around with glue. Why not make the floor tiles?

In my opinion, there is little risk in using adhesive on the kitchen backsplash if the surface you are applying it to is flawless. I would think twice about using this method in the bathroom – unless I was sure that the previous tiles were still waterproof. But kitchen splashes, especially MY makeshift kitchen bottle, can’t hold much water. Ross and I are avid cooks and cleaners. And of course I will print well.

Small plastic X’s and spacers. I have to thank Terry Fay for using them in the background as well. That’s very smart. By using spacers on top of the adhesive, you keep the surface of the tile stable. That is, you cannot push one deeper than the other.

I never had any problems during this process. And as you can see, my tiles are different from traditional bricks. Well done:

I’m a tire lover. I think it’s the third time I put tires on. So here is what I would do differently. maybe this will help you.

Using Elegant Kitchen Backsplash Tile For A Kitchen Renovation

I think the two challenges are mixing the grout to a good consistency (some say peanut butter) and getting the stuff into the lines without the grout being too dry to remove.

Next time I get a more expensive grout cutter I spread the grout between the tiles using a bag that cake decorators use. This will reduce cleaning time later. It will also use less grout.

This process took me several days. One day to glue the tiles growing in the garden, another day to make cuts and glue the cut tiles, and a few days to glue the grout after making sure the glue is set.

Diy Backsplash Is A Budget Friendly Project

Overall, I’m happy with the results. With little money and little time, I achieved my goal: cream cabinets and floor tiles perfectly offset the ugly pink granite in this kitchen. It’s not a stone I would choose, but I can appreciate its natural beauty.

I shared the sink plans here and now it’s time to share how we installed and added the granite countertop and sinks.

Granite, marble, quartz, etc. work space can be purchased. they pre-cut it to different sizes online, but I just contacted a granite gem shop and had them cut me a vanity top that I made from scraps they had in their yard.

It was much cheaper than what I had seen online and I was able to pick through their inventory to find the model I liked.

They provided ceramic sinks on top and cut their holes and pipes if needed, then we put everything together on the new water … which I will show you below 🙂

If you have an expensive granite supply nearby, I suggest you talk to them about using smaller pieces for your bathroom vanities.

Once we had the sink, top and bottom, it was time to install it. You can watch his video here (including how to install the shower!)

NOTE. Read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing your countertop and sink, if applicable. Our counter and sinks didn’t come with instructions, so we were on our own and found that this group worked well for us.

But while this worked well for our granite and ceramic sinks without additional fasteners, some builders may request mechanical fasteners/boxes/bracket to mount the surface and/or sinks.

If you already have a toilet and are just changing the top, you can skip this step if the toilet is already there.

However, in my case, I had built this vanity and had to nail it to the walls before adding the top.

I used a tape measure to find at least two on the wall behind the toilet.

I then used a spirit level and shims (as needed) to line up the depth and used 2 ½ inch wood screws on top of the back support to mount it to the wall.

Now… hear me out – there are many ways to do this, and many ideas. It is not the only method, the only thing, or the only method you can use for this… it is only one method 🙂

In the past, I used clear silicone to adhere to the granite sheets (very high…NOT deep) and it worked great.

However, in this case I chose construction glue to make it stronger and safer because it was very large (6 meters long).

I applied DAP DynaGrip Mirror, Marble and Granite Adhesive over the vanity as directed.

We (“we” as in several people because it was heavy!) carefully placed the top of the granite vanity and placed the center where needed.

The glue is not an “instant stick”, so you have less time to get it where you want it.

You can tighten it, but it was too heavy when I put it on, so I let it settle. It was so heavy that it stood alone.
