Benjamin Moore Dior Gray Undertones – I’ve been getting so many questions about Benjamin Moore Gray Owl that I thought I’d go ahead and do some color lighting to talk about the differences between Gray Owl, Sherwin Williams Repose Gray, Benjamin Moore Stonington, and Benjamin Moore Classic Gray because there. are some notable differences.
Gray Owl has been one of Benjamin Moore’s best-selling colors for about 4-5 years now, and it’s no surprise that it’s a beautiful soft gray.
Benjamin Moore Dior Gray Undertones
Owl gray has the right balance of warm/cool which makes it a reliable color. However, with light gray, more natural light in the space, the color will be cooler. I personally think that gray owls do best in places with natural light or little natural light. In a place full of natural light, the color can go from light gray to cool gray or even blue. The exception is in places with a lot of natural light that receives direct sunlight from the west. The gray owl looks good in this case!
Color Inspiration For The Cabin
It is important for me to say that when it comes to light gray, I do not recommend matching colors but buy the type of color you like. When this was done, I noticed an interesting difference in color when it came to a light gray. Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore and Behr all have different shades of white base before mixing the color. Small changes in the base color can greatly affect these bright warm colors.
Owl gray (in the right light) can be one of the best wall colors and can be the perfect background for other beautiful things and colors in the space.
The bathroom below is a perfect example of when I think gray owls are the best! Note that the sky has natural light and some artificial light. For me, this compound is the best environment for gray doves.

While Gray Owl is my favorite color, it is a very subtle color and needs to be tested in clear and bright light to make sure all the stars are aligned.
I get questions all the time about the difference between Benjamin Moore Gray Owl, Sherwin Williams Repose Gray, Benjamin Moore Stonington, and Benjamin Moore Classic Gray, and let’s talk about these subtle differences.
When you look at the above colors on a computer, the difference is subtle but very noticeable. However, in the background, the difference is very subtle, but in certain lighting conditions, the difference can be huge!
Gray Paint Ideas
Gray owls are slightly lighter than gray owls and hotter than gray owls. However, these two colors are almost identical in background. Repose gray is the number one I recommend to my clients because it’s not as dull as owl gray because Repose is a little warmer. BTW, you can read more about Sherwin Williams Repose Gray here.
Notice above in the client’s dining room that the space has lots of natural light. Consider how warm the comfort is in this situation. Gray owls may feel a little cold in this bright space.
As you can see from the color palette above, Stonington Gray looks like a different color, right?! On the surface, the difference between Stonington and Gray Owl is very subtle. But!! As you can see above, the Stonington color is a cool gray, which can be very cool in a very bright space. In other natural/artificial light (or direct sunlight), the Stonington is distinctive and sometimes difficult to distinguish between the Stonington and the gray owl. Stonington is still a little darker in the shadows.

Benjamin Moore Classic Gray is lighter than the other three colors and is the color I recommend for places with plenty of natural light when the other three colors can be cool/dry.
This downstairs space, designed by Studio McGee, is full of natural light and notice that Benjamin Moore’s classic gray is also a good mix of warm/cool gray light. Classic gray may not be the best color choice in areas without natural light, but it is a perfect choice with Gray Owl, Repose and Stonington when natural light is full of light.
I rarely use traditional gray but when I do, this is a very special light above with a lot of natural light. Gray Owl, Repose and especially Stonington will be cool/dry and probably blue in this light.

So the moral of the story is that light can affect gray light which is important! It is very important to start the color sample in the space just to be sure.
