Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray Undertones – Do you want to paint a room, closet or door gray? When it comes to finding the perfect shade, there are hundreds of pale grays, taupes, and darker shades of gray. Tapering can be overwhelming! Natural lighting plays a big role in how the paint will look, the sheen of the paint, the size of the room and what furniture you have in the room.
I spent several hours researching Sherwin-Williams’ most popular gray colors and narrowed them down to my ten favorites. Below I share information about each paint color, swatches of each color, colors in the room, and some on the cabinets.
Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray Undertones
The purpose of this article is to help you narrow down the paint color choices that will work best for your home. Although I have worked hard to capture the true color of the swatch, the swatch below will in some cases differ from the actual paint color. Visit your local paint store to get color samples before making your final decision!
Sherwin Williams Light French Gray (sw 0055)
This article provides RGB and LRV values for each paint color. RGB represents the amount of red, green, and blue in each paint color. On the LRV scale, O absorbs all light (black) and 100 reflects all light (white).

SW Agreeable Gray is a popular color and is a warm shade of light gray. If you’re choosing between this color and Repose Grey, Agreeable Gray is the warmer of the two.
Agreeable Gray Color Review: Simple Yet Awesome By Laura Rugh
SW Repose Gray is another color option in the greige category, but it’s a bit cooler than Agreeable Grey. This is the pick for the Pottery Barn Fall/Winter 2019 Kids Collection.
This color is a cool gray halftone with a slight blue undertone. SW Light French Gray is part of the Historic Colors collection and is a great neutral choice for both interiors and exteriors.
SW Mindful Gray is a shade darker than Repose Gray and a shade lighter than Dorian Gray. It stays on the light side of mid-gray and will look beautiful against white paneling and white furniture. This gray is more red than green and blue, but overall neutral.
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray: A Complete Color Review
SW Amazing Gray is a warm gray that is darker than Worldly Grey. This color looks good against white panels and is a good choice for interiors and exteriors.
SW Dorian Gray is a medium gray that is darker than Mindful Grey. Its gray color is a popular color choice for cabinets and doors. Part of the PBteen Fall-Winter 2019 collection
SW Worldly Gray is a light warm grey, a shade lighter than Amazing Grey. Same color as Agreeable Gray with a hint of green.
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray (why It’s So Popular)
SW Anew Gray is a shade darker than Agreeable Gray and is between beige and gray (basically a warm gray). This color provides a nice contrast against the white paneling and is a good choice for joinery.
SW Comfort Gray is somewhat darker than sea salt in the green family. I chose this color because of its blue color and it is perfect for coastal decor.
SW Online is a good choice of neutral polish. This color can have a blue tint in certain lighting and goes well with cool or warm furniture.

When it comes to gray paint, Sherwin Williams is definitely leading the charge, especially with gorgeous neutrals like the gorgeous gray.
Timeless Interior Paint Colors

Amazing Gray is a gray paint color – not as warm as beige, but not as cool as gray (with a preference for the gray side). But no matter how it leans, it is still considered a warm paint color. It can be a little more gray in the midnight light, but settles down to a soft warmth in the afternoon or evening western light.
Amazing Gray has an LRV of 47. You can expect good contrast with the white trim with this LRV, and it will probably be too dark to use as a “whole house” color. If you have a light room, this will add a bit of light balance, but if you have a dark room, the odd gray can look a bit flat and dirty (read more about LRV HERE).

When it comes to gray and gray paint colors, you will often see a prominent blue tint, purple or green – the nature of the beast! Weird gray creates a more subtle but noticeable green tone, so if you don’t like green tones, you MIGHT NOT like this color and you can read this.

Best Gray Paint Colors By Sherwin Williams — Tag & Tibby Design
Ooooh, I love Sherwin Williams Pure White and Amazing Grey. It has a passive heat that sits very gently on it, yet contrasts beautifully.
Well, I’m not saying no, but I will say that in the hundreds of exterior color consultations I’ve done, I haven’t recommended Amazing Gray more than three times. It is not a color that goes well with most stone, brick or roof colors.
The weird gray should be in the middle. There are more popular gray polishes with reduced halftones (such as Sherwin Williams Anew Gray), but there are also less popular options. The fact is that when choosing colors for an “average” room, people lean towards a lighter color.
