How To Decorate Family Room Walls – If you’ve been staring at a blank wall in your living room for a long time and trying to decide what to do with it, one of these sixty living room wall decorating ideas will help!
Do you have a big blank wall in your living room like I do? I don’t think all blank walls need decorating, but I think this wall needs something. Not sure what! After searching for inspiration, I’ve collected six of my favorite living room wall decor ideas to share!
How To Decorate Family Room Walls
To the right of the blank wall in the photo above, you can see the solution I used to decorate the largest of the four walls in our living room – the art wall! I used ten art prints in an equally spaced format around the media and TV set:

The art print is an art print from Minted that’s 18″ x 24″ matte bronze – you can’t buy my exact frame separately (my art ships in pre-order) but it’s very similar and the same Larger sizes or boxes available. If you don’t need big enough.
This same grid-like wall can also be used for the main wall behind the sofa without removing the center frame as we put the TV. You can also create a beautiful looking gallery wall just like our home office. Check out my post on gallery wall ideas for tips on making your own!
Another great option for the main wall in the living room is to hang two or three large pieces of art such as;

I bought this to display on the wall in our master bathroom and hang it here for a while until I move my stuff in there, but I really love it in this entryway! I got you. There is a formula, a science that we use to consider decorating all four walls of a room. Scientifically speaking, your eyes want to move at a speed that is pleasant and comfortable. It should be related to variety, maintain interest and be a little unintelligible, but provide a negative space and be easy to settle a little.
After looking at my work/EHD over the years, I realize that we have a deliberate (yet organic) way of doing this. Here are the options (choose one from each wall):
That’s right – every wall in the room is decorated with a different art/mirror or sculpture design. The two things seem related but redundant. Imagine two gallery walls next to each other? Two big pictures? Two glasses? Two strings or a diptych? It seems like a no-brainer that you wouldn’t, but I see it often because we all use what we have and hang it on the wall so it’s not empty. i understand We can help you.
Let’s take the Portland living room as an example (let’s call it Exhibit A). We have a mantel on the fireplace wall, one piece flat, one piece vertical, with a diptych overlooking the open dining area.

And then on the other wall, we have a ‘drawn gallery’, which is an empty wall, because we have a big vertical hole in the corner. There are no mirrors or ‘art’, but that’s because we have pictures to help you connect those 3 dimensions. See how your eyes never get bored and jump around?
Exhibit B – Our bedroom in LA. We have a large ‘girl’ for you (TV frame), a mirror and I added a ladder that also serves as ‘art’ or 3 dimensional work.

On another wall, we have a vertical piece, two stacks that don’t match (gallery mini), and a three-top box (pretty sure those are the sandwiches Brian wants to eat), along with a large vertical mirror. . Wardrobe (not shown). Yes, you can have opposite mirrors in the same room, just don’t be close to each other.
