Repose Gray SW 7015 has been one of Sherwin Williams’ most popular grays for many years. You might look at this color and think, “That doesn’t look like brown.” And you are right! Repose Gray is a very warm gray. Beige undertones can also be considered grays. The great thing about Repose Gray is that it can balance warm and cool elements (like Acier) very well. However, compared to other popular colors like Agreeable Gray SW 7029, it is a true gray.
Shades Of Gray Paint: Medium Gray
If you are looking for a light and neutral gray color, Light French Gray SW 0055 can be a great choice for you. Gray French light can be used both outside and inside and has a balanced color. It has very little warmth, which helps the color feel flat and dull. To find “true” gray, it should not contain blue or green. For this reason, light French brown is an excellent choice for “true” brown.
Chelsea Gray by Benjamin Moore, Chelsea Gray SW 2850 by Sherwin Williams is a great choice for both exteriors and interiors. It’s the best gray on our list, but overall it’s still a warm neutral green. Chelsea Gray is very welcome for the green and red colors used here.
There are many light grays on this list, but if you’re looking for something darker, look no further than Summit Gray SW 7669. When we asked our team what a neutral gray is, Summit Gray was the popular choice. It’s easy to see why. Gray has no blue or green undertones, which many consumers try to avoid when choosing gray. Gray is especially good for painting the exterior of your home.
Mindful Gray Sw 7016
The runway is almost too purple, but we’ll allow it because it’s so beautiful! Gray has a lot of warmth, so if you’re a little worried about going gray, this is a great option. It’s especially great for large open floor plans or spaces that want to feel a little bigger. Pair this color with dark blue and navy, orange, deep red or sand green to create your perfect space.
For a neutral gray without a blue undertone, consider Gray Matters by Sherwin Williams. It is a light and neutral gray with a neutral feel. If you have a lot of beautiful features in your home or are just looking for a neutral gray color, this is a great gray option. Neutral colors can be a bit boring, so we recommend adding some color to furniture, accessories or accent styles.
It’s one of the warmest colors on our list, but we love warm gray because it helps the color feel vibrant and modern. It has just the right shade of gray and pink, and goes well with warm wood floors and crisp white trim. This type of color is a little more interesting than the apartment, “true” gray, because it adds warmth and opens up the space.

We’ve seen consumers struggle to choose gray. This usually comes from the struggle for gray color that doesn’t fade, but trust us, that’s not what you want. Most images contain red, green, yellow, and blue, and to get a completely neutral gray, you need to mix a certain amount of color or use black.
So why don’t paint companies make a completely neutral gray? Well, because it doesn’t look good. Neutral gray has no undertones and therefore looks very flat and one-sided.
