Benjamin Moore Warm Blue Gray Colors – Last time we talked about the bedroom, I revealed the new wallpaper ceiling, which is the starting point for the rest of this room. Looking up at the paper, I began to visualize the remaining space. To me, the wallpaper looked bold in creams, golds and blues, but on the ceiling, I was a little lost as it was surrounded by a sea of white ceiling paint.
First of all, I had to choose a new gray-blue color for the walls and ceiling. It snowed an incredible amount in Chicago (it’s been an incredible winter!) and of course it snowed a lot the day we wanted to buy the paint samples. But I didn’t let that deter me! I put on my snow gear and headed to my local Benjamin Moore store. Luckily it’s a few blocks away.

I brought in a wallpaper sample and found a blue-gray paint color that complimented it, usually when trying to find a color to match a certain cabinet color, pattern, or other design element. All you have to do is ask your paint store. Match the color to a pattern. They just put it under the scanner and BOOM…your color match is done! But the blue in this wallpaper is so small that I couldn’t scan it to find an exact match. He said it was Benjamin Moore’s Blue Springs.

So my game plan was to look at swatches and find a warm pale blue color. I didn’t want to be told I was too purple or too cold. Instead, a warm light gray was my main goal! I looked at the samples and took home four paint samples to try on the walls.
I always like to paint patterns directly on the wall and have them all over the room. I know some people paint panels or patterned sheets and move them around the room, but I love looking at the colors on the walls. I’ve never had a problem painting over a pattern to see the original color underneath, it worked best for me. That’s what happened with this project. Remember common painting mistakes from my last blog post? I talked about how people don’t think about glitter in their color choices. So I decided to use two different glitters of the same color.
We used matte for the ceiling as we knew there were some imperfections in the ceiling and a brighter gloss would accentuate them. We used eggshells for the walls. Because the walls are bright and durable. (Note: I also chose the Aura line, which is the nicest color of BM. I don’t think the brand is as important as the actual color. Go for the nicest color you can afford by the gallon to the ceiling).
I talked to a paint store and asked what was the best way to work with two different glosses of the same color. Then he told me to cut the eggshell sheen on the ceiling and paint the walls a normal color. That’s exactly what I did.

I prepared the room before painting. Finn and I removed the old mattress and box spring. I took the headboard and bed frame apart. And cleaned all the dust bunnies hiding behind the furniture.
The small attached Dyson vacuum cleaner was the perfect companion for cleaning all the dust off the baseboards behind the furniture – it was a pleasure to clean the place! After all the dust was gone, I removed the outlets and vents and used masking tape around the windows and doors.
Now it’s time to paint. Following the painter’s instructions… First I painted the ceiling and did the preliminary work. I was afraid of ripping or punching the wallpaper and couldn’t glue it, so I cut it slowly next to the wallpaper. It took time, but it was worth it.

I have found that using roller dilators really works. All that remained was to climb the ladder and cut around the wallpaper. The ceiling and the rest of the high walls were finished with a roll. This saved me some time, but this project still took me all day. That day my mom took Rory to her cousin’s house and left at 8am. When I got back at 5pm, I cleaned up. It took too long! Finally finished watching the entire season
Here he is looking at the ceiling as if lying on the back bed. Isn’t it great? ! I’m so glad I brought this paint color to the edge of the wallpaper. Because now there is a show in this room. It stands out and adds such a unique element to the design.
I used to feel that black had too many fans for all the whites and creams. Now, I think it goes really well with the new blue-gray paint color that contrasts with the warm tones of the paint and wallpaper.

I took these pictures in the morning after sunrise and I think they represent the true colors I see in this paint. It doesn’t look gray at all to me, instead it can look very blue and sometimes a little green. I’m so happy I can’t see any mauve in this shade!
As with most things, the color changes a bit throughout the day and I love it regardless of the light or time of day. The colors are just beautiful.
Still, I’m sitting in this bedroom looking at it and I’m not crazy about it! This scene hasn’t gotten old. I immediately lay down on my new king size bed and took in this new view of the earth. i like it!
